Heartwarming / The Larry Sanders Show

Go To

  • In "Hank's Contract", Hank is feeling particularly insecure over Larry and Artie's mockery of him due to his stressful contract negotiations and eventually lashes out over it. When he learns that the network is taking a hardline to Hank and refusing all of his (admittedly rather exorbitant) demands, placing Hank in the position of either having to accept a humiliating backdown with nothing to show for it or having to follow through on his threats to quit the show, Larry secretly approaches the head of the network and threatens to quit in solidarity unless the network accedes to Hank's demands, indicating that for all his poking fun he does care about Hank more than he lets on. It doesn't entirely work (making Larry realise much to his chagrin that his own bargaining position is weaker than he thinks it is), but the network does at least give Hank some of what he wants, allowing him to exit the situation with a bit of dignity.
  • In the episode, "Matchmaker", Larry hires an inexperienced booker, Mary Lou, who prepares questions full of mistakes and misinformation. The heartwarming part comes in towards the end when Larry interviews Tim Conway and incorrectly mentions that Conway was in ''Speed 2: Cruise Control". At first, Conway is confused, but then realizes the misinformation and, to save Larry and Mary Lou the embarrassment, goes along with it. He doesn't even correct them after the show. Mary Lou's overjoyed smile and excitement over "getting one right" is absolutely adorable.
