Heartwarming / The Iliad

• Hector comforting his wife and child and praying the gods to let his son grow up to be a great warrior. Doubles as Tear Jerker (and Harsher in Hindsight if you know what happens to Astyanax after Troy falls).
• King Priam, sneaking into his enemies' war camp alone, just to beg Achilles for mercy to have his dead son Hector's body back. Manly Tears ensue.
  • Hermes, despite mostly supporting the Greeks in the conflict (possibly because of divine nepotism, Odysseus is a descendant of his), gives Priam his protection on his journey.
• One time when the Trojans were attacking the Greeks who were retreating, Nestor was left behind and saw Hector gunning for him. He tried to call for help, but everyone, including the big guys who have fought with Hector to a draw like Ajax, ignored him and left him for dead - but Diomedes came back for him. This also doubles as a Moment of Awesome since he was going against Hector and would have almost killed him if Apollo hadn't protected him. Probably the oldest form of A Friend in Need if there ever was one.
• Hephaestus and Hera's relationship in the Iliad is considerably more loving than in other myths. Hephaestus's fall from Olympus in this version was caused by Zeus, who threw him because Hephaestus took his mother's side in an argument between her and Zeus. Hephaestus begs Hera not to fight Zeus because they both know what Zeus will do to her and that Hephaestus can't protect her from him.
• There's something very cute about Menelaus being the one to defend Patroclus' corpse. Menelaus is agreed to be one of the weaker leaders of the Greek army, yet when he sees Patroclus die, he's the first one to interfere. Patroclus and Menelaus also are commonly thought to have many things in common, being the weaker, but kinder member of a pair, and being the characters most often addressed in the second person by the narrator, which some academics think indicate the fact that Homer had a particular liking for them.
