Heartwarming / The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Go To

  • Although bittersweet given how we all know how President Snow turns out to be, it's still sweet the way he and Lucy Gray fell for one another. He's so enraptured by her that before the Games start he's brought her lavish amounts of food and even shared a few kisses with her. The heartwarming continues as he arrives in District 12 with the sole intent of seeking her out and even wanting to be with her. Really, their whole relationship is heartwarming until it all goes downhill towards the end of the book.
  • Lysistrata Vickers does her best to keep Jessup Diggs safe after he saves her life in the rebel bombing, and once that becomes impossible due to his inevitable death from rabies, she turns to protecting Lucy Gray. When Jessup is threatening Lucy Gray in his delirium, Lysistrata distracts him with water bottles sent by sponsors, and in her interview after the Games are finished she insists that Jessup contracted rabies in the Capitol rather than bringing it in from the Districts. She also tells everyone about how Jessup saved her, and would've certainly died to protect Lucy Gray, purely because he was kind. When an interviewer compares Jessup to a loyal dog, Lysistrata vehemently rejects that; Jessup was a good and loyal person.
  • Sejanus' mother feeding Snow and his family breakfast, then later his Peacekeeper mates with sweet treats and other homemade goodies. She even feeds Snow dessert when he pops over to their place for a visit. Sejanus' mother is arguably one of the kindest people in the book, if not the kindest.
    • She also makes sweet treats for the Avox servants in her house, even though they can't taste them anymore, and cares enough to find out which ones they like best and makes them frequently. Coriolanus snarks in his narration that it's pointless to make treats for people who can't taste them, but they can still smell them and appreciate them, and Sejanus' mother doesn't let their mutilations stop her from making things that they like.
