- The scene before Travis tries to kill Palantine. While at this point his insanity is what's guiding him now, he still takes the time to send a letter and money to Iris after talking her into leaving prostitution. (At the time he didn't know Sport convinced her to stay.) The letter itself, while barely visible to read, borders on Tear Jerker territory:Travis: Dear Iris, I hope this is enough for your trip. By the time you read this I may already be dead.
- Prior to that, Travis takes Iris out to breakfast; in contrast to the earlier (somewhat awkward) café date with Betsy, the two seem to share a genuine rapport and to enjoy each other's company.
- After the bloody shootout near the end, it's shown that not only has Travis survived, but he's also become a local hero and managed to sent Iris back to her parents, who send him a letter profusely thanking him and saying that he'll always be welcome in their home.
- A smaller one in the end but despite getting angry at and spurned by Betsy before, Travis ends up forgiving her and even gives her a free trip.
