First movie

  • In the first Lockdown Town they're seen passing through, Mister's first order of business seems to be making sure Martin check over by a doctor, even over-paying for the service with medicine because the doctor said she needed all of it for her patients. He also makes sure Martin gets a hair cut later on. Both of actions proving that, despite Mister's surliness and generally rough demeaner, he is a very capable and caring Parental Substitute to his young protégé.
  • Mister digging a grave for Sister's fallen fellow nun so she can have a proper burial and give Sister some closure. He even removes his hat (a common sign of respect) during the makeshift funeral. Somewhat more humorously, Martin's narration reveals Mister still yanked out the dead vampire nun's fangs but respectfully waited until Sister couldn't see him do it.
  • The scenes of bands playing to the enjoyment of small crowds in both the road house and Strivington provide a World Half Full feeling to the movie. The way Belle (a singer in the former band) and Martin share a flirtatious smile as she sings helps.
  • Peggy flirting with Martin as she serves him and Mister food at her run-down family diner, adding that it's been months since she saw a boy her age.
  • Martin hugging Mister towards the end and crying. Mister who has been keeping him at arm's length throughout the movie puts his arm around him as well.

Second movie

  • For all the tragedy that is soon to come, Martin telling his daughter, Belle (named after his dead friend from the first movie) about Mister is incredibly sweet. This is implied to be a regular bedtime story for the girl and Martin showing of the Mister's necklace that he kept as a memento shows that, even after ten years, Martin still loves the man dearly.
  • While second film is bleaker overall, Mister taking on a softer, more empathic outlook allows for plenty of heartwarming moments with his surrogate children, Martin and Lady, and his old friends, Bat and Doc.
