Despite being one of the darkest anime ever made, Now and Then, Here and There does have some heart-warming moments.
- Shu's attitude in general. You would expect someone of his age who goes through a living hell full of torture, death, and suffering to either lose their ideals or go mad. But no matter what he sees or how people act around him, Shu refuses to give in to deprevity and cynicism, and even if he directly is helpless to change things, his very idealism influences others to be better and he lives up to them until the end of the series. Even after his kendo stick shatters, he still keeps up with his attitude as show during his goobye to Sara and the trip back to his world
- And while we are at it, Shu managing to inspire Lala-Ru to bring back water to the world, giving back hope to those who live in the hellish future of Earth. Never has restoring someone's faith in human kindness so heartwarming or awesome before.
