Heartwarming / Nioh 2

  • Despite how scary and gruff they all sound, almost every Yokai Spirit Core message is actually a defeated demon either acknowledging your strength and hoping that you go on to better things, or being thankful that they've been put to rest. It reinforces that Yokai in this setting aren't inherently evil.
    • A major recurring point of the game is depicting Yokai differently from the Always Chaotic Evil interpretation the first game leaned more toward. Being able to reunite a grieving, transformed mother with the spirit of her lost child, hearing the last words of spirits trapped by Yokai of resentment to relieve them of their regrets, and looking out for mischievious but benign Yokai. There are many ways for the Half-Human Hybrid Hide to carry on their parents' dream.
    • The surprisingly heartwarming interactions with defeated Yokai even includes Big Bad Otakemaru, who thanks you and calmly accepts his death following his final defeat as Nightmare Bringer.
  • Mumyo growing to care for Hide as a deep and loyal friend. Quite the change from the indiscriminate Yokai killer we meet near the start of the game.
  • Tokichiro helping Hide defeat Kashin Koji. Barely any words need to be shared to illustrate that the friends-turned-enemies have made up.
  • After clearing final DLC episode, a Mujina in The Interim asks for Hide's help to reunite them with their friends. When you fulfill its request, a Scampuss and Kappa will join it, saying they can all play together. Players can pet the Scampuss as many times as they wish. It gives the realm a lighter feeling from the bittersweetness of having helped so many familiar faces shed their regrets to pass onto the afterlife, leaving the hollow solemnly empty before the Yokai arrived.
