Heartwarming / Mars Attacks!

• Byron making it back to his family, and running into their apartment building.
• Florence telling Richie, in her own way (she's possibly suffering from dementia), that Richie is her favorite grandson. Richie reminds her that she's talking about him. Florence happily replies "I know!"
  • Later in the film, Richie opts to go save his grandmother even against the warnings of his Jerkass parents. Which ultimately saves his life and Florence's and reveals the weakness of the Martians to stop the invasion.
  • Also, the slightly Ship Teasey interactions between Richie and Taffy the First Daughter at the end.
• Natalie and Kessler's brief confessions of having a crush on one another, offering both a small comfort during their captivity and dismemberment.
  • The Last Kiss they share near the end.
• The comics involved a moment wherein the Martians and humans form a brief truce over the winter, illustrated by soldiers and civilians from both sides playing soccer in the streets.
• Just the fact that in a movie where the government and military are completely powerless against an alien force, it's kindhearted ordinary citizens who last the longest against the Martians and ultimately come out victorious. And despite the pitch black humor and borderline nihilistic tone throughout, humanity still survives and is rebuilding and taking care of one another.
