Sweethearts no matter the universe.
  • Bowser's troops welcoming their paper counterparts into their ranks without hesitation once they appear. The koopa troopas especially as the 3D ones become awestruck at the 2D group's attack and how useful it'll be against Mario.
  • A rather lovely interaction between Paper Mario and Luigi happens at one point, when Luigi is bawling wildly and Paper Mario folds himself up into a tissue for Luigi to dry his eyes on after he's calmed down a bit.
    • A more subtle bit is when Paper Mario first meets regular Mario and Luigi. He actually mistakes Luigi for Paper Luigi. Keep in mind, the paper Toads didn't recognize Mario and Luigi at first until they took a good, long look at them. Paper Mario took one look and recognized his brother, even if he wasn't the same brother or the same kind of dimensions as him.
  • The two Bowser Juniors don't just overcome the bickering that plagues the two Bowsers and Kameks— they literally become best friends, and they are absolutely adorable when they're together. In fact, they grow so close in such a short amount of time that the two quickly become far more concerned with making sure they get to stay together than busying themselves with their fathers' evil plans.
    • When the two are on their own papercraft, it's clear they're having the time of their frigging lives. Both of them can barely contain their excitement and bounce up and down on its head. Hell, even the papercraft itself looks like it's having fun with it's hyperactive idle jumping and super fast running speed. All the while, the two Juniors give little verbal high fives to each other as the battle progresses.
    • Even cuter is when they start referring to each other as 'buddy'. In battle, they even help each other out by throwing each other healing and revival mushrooms and freak out when the other is knocked to the ground, and celebrate when one of them is revived.
      • Which only makes their final fate so much worse.
  • A minor example with the Big Pokey and the Paper Tower Power Pokey. After defeating one of them, the remaining Pokey will react with horror during his friend's death animation before turning red. Notably, they're the only bosses in the game who react this way.
  • Keeping with the trend that's carried since Bowser's Inside Story, even though Bowser's an evil tyrant, he does care about his own. Case in point, he gets good and pissed when he sees the defeated Bowser Jrs lying on the ground. He and Paper Bowser both then scoop them up and cradle them in one arm, showing some real fatherly concern.
Bowser: WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY SON?!
Paper Bowser: How could they do this to my son?!
  • The two Princesses are also very sweet together. Both share all their secret longings and feelings with each other and their impatience with the stuffy expectations everyone has for them.
    • This comes to a diabetes-inducingly cute moment shared at the end of the game, when it comes time for the Paper cast to return home. Peach gently embraces her counterpart, uttering a very soft "thank you" before seeing her off. It's but a moment, but a tender one all the same.
  • The Paper Toads throughout the game are something of a nuisance, always needing to be saved in excessive amounts. But when Bowser's taken to the sky with no way to reach him, guess who pulls through? The Paper Toads form a human...mushroom...paper ladder to the heavens, shouting encouragement to Mario and crew as they ascend. Not only that, the Toads band together to safely maneuver their construct around an attack from Neo Bowser Castle from above, determined to protect their heroes. To top it all off, all the extra Paper Toads come with you in the form of a penultimate Bros. Attack. They might normally be useless, but they truly care for their heroes.
  • After the player defeats the Bowser Jr.s, the two Marios get a kiss from their respective Princess Peach (as shown by this page's image). But once the camera pans to the Jr.s...
  • A minor one, but watching Paper Mario cheering on his companions while they execute a Bros. Attack is pretty touching.
  • The fact both Regular Peach and Paper Peach kiss Luigi as well as their respective Marios during the ending, especially since Luigi was asking Regular Peach for one earlier on in the game.
