  • Owen. While he's an uncaring, arrogant jerk at worst and an Attention Whore at best, he does care about Josh's well-being and confronts Natalie when he suspects Josh is being played. He also looks genuinely sad when Natalie leaves, and then genuinely happy when Josh and her get together at the end.
Owen: I don't want to hear your explanation! I just want you to stop whatever this charade is with my brother.
  • Josh explaining why he makes candles—to honor his late grandfather, with whom he was particularly close.
  • When Natalie is put on the spot to sing "Baby It's Cold Outside", a song she hates because of its implications, Josh offers to be her backup singer and alters the lyrics to sound less date-rapey.
  • Combined with Funny—the residents of the nursing home wanting to get into the online dating scene and making the best of their situation (being old, infirm, and/or incapacitated) with their Gallows Humor:
Elderly Man #1: What if I spruce it up just a little bit...instead of "has Parkinson's", I go with "always on the move?"
Elderly Man #2: I want to avoid mentioning that I'm in a wheelchair.
Elderly Man #1: Just change it. Say "I enjoy rolling with my homies!"
Elderly Woman #1: Will the fact that I live in a nursing home turn off a lot of men?
Elderly Woman #2: Just say "into the group thing"!
Elderly Woman #1: (Points to a man in a hospital bed) And Hank there would prefer staying in over going out!
  • Bob. Atypically for an Asian American parent, he isn't obsessed with Josh's education or status in life and just wants Josh to be happy. He isn't upset or offended when Josh admits he's never liked working for the family business and doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps. He also gladly opens his home to Natalie and tells her how glad he is that she's joining their family, probably due to his own interracial marriage.
  • Natalie's boss Lee, who has been antagonistic to her most of the movie, encouraging her to be honest about her feelings about Josh.
Lee: I just find it odd, because you usually run at the first sign of imperfection. Josh is imperfect, but yet you decided to stay?
    Natalie: It doesn't really matter.
Lee: Honey, it's the only thing that matters.
  • Natalie recreating Love Actually at the end of the movie when she realizes her feelings for Josh, and Josh's response.
Josh's poster board: YIPPEE KI YAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
