Heartwarming / Ghosts (Raina Telgemeier)

Go To

As this is a Heartwarming Moments page, spoilers will be left unmarked. You Have Been Warned!

  • As clear as it is that Cat's very overprotective of Maya, it goes to show you that she cares for her sister very much, and is willing to make sure she's safe in any way she can.
  • When Maya suffers a breathing attack during the ghost hike, Carlos is horrified and offers to help Cat carry her sister back to town. And although Cat angrily refuses, Carlos still hangs close by and calls an ambulance for Maya.
  • Carlos's late uncle telling Cat that even in death, his family still visits and remembers him.
  • Of course, there's the bit near the end of the book where Cat gives Carlos a little kiss on the cheek. Awww...
  • Cat meets a ghost she mistakes for her late Abuela. When she learns the ghost is not her grandmother (she explains she has no family), Cat initially leaves. But then she sees how people befriend and visit ghosts who aren't related and has a change of heart. So she shares a soda with the elderly ghost, who kindly praises Cat for her "good spirit".
  • At the end of the story, Abuela didn't show up at the Dia de los Muertos party...but at the end, there's suddenly a feast with traditional Mexican foods! There's so many beautiful ways to interpret this gesture of kindness. Perhaps Abuela was waiting for Cat to be able to accept the presence of ghosts in her life? Or maybe she wanted Maya to be able to have fun too since her health prevented her from going to the party? Or maybe she wanted to have her daughter see this as a way of apologizing for how they had such a strained relationship and wanted to posthumously try again?
