Heartwarming / Death Battle Arena

Go To

  • Anytime that a character has a respectful intro line towards another character.
    • Many of the moms and dads of Death Battle like Black Canary, Ken, and Android 18 going Papa Wolf and Mama Bear on finding out about Todoroki and Crona's Abusive Parents. Ken even wants to kick Endeavor's ass for it. Doubles as moment of awesome.
    • Even after all she's been through and done, many X-Men characters, Raven, Steven Universe, and Discord are offering to help Lucy and give her a second chance.
    • While many are indifferent to Johnny Cage's movies, some characters like Harley and Michaelangelo are actually fans of his. Nice to know someone out there likes his movies.
    • Anytime Batman shows his caring and compassionate side. Some notable instances:
      • Commending Cammy on her attempts to rebuild her life. A quote heavily inspired by Batman TAS Episode "Harley's Holiday"
      • Letting Steven Univsrse in on a lesser known fact that he really wants to help his rogues gallery.
    • A good part of the DC Universe's quotes against Harley are encouraging her to ditch the Joker and start a better life. She may be a bit of a headache for some of them but it's nice to know they all care for her well-being and see a lot of good in her.
      • There are also plenty of non-DC characters, like Star, Chun-Li and Ramona, who also attempt to talk Harley away from The Joker.
    • Batman's outro to Luigi is commending him for carrying on even when scared.
    • Butcher's outro quote against Homelander has him state he hopes Ryan does not end up like his father.
    • Batgirl warming up to Terry Mcginnis quickly. She has this to say
"You've got the heart and spirit Bruce always admired. Consider us family."
      • Terry also mentioning in Nightwing's outro that he talked about him all the time and he really meant a lot to Bruce. If you take into their semi falling out in The animated series into account it shows that Bruce still cares very much for him.
    • Magneto may have his differences with The Avengers but he is at least notably grateful to Dr. Strange for helping Wanda and Captain America for fighting against the Nazis.
    • In typical Steven Universe fashion Steven reaches out to a lot of villains (Save for Homelander and Michael Myers) and offers help and sees the good still in them even when few do.
    • Goomba and Koopa normally get laughed at, threatened, and bullied in many characters intros. Notably though Captain America notably acknowledges their part as a soldier and Dan refers to a Goomba as a tough fighter. It may not mean much from Dan but it must be a nice boost of confidence to them.
      • Rock Lee also offers to help the Koopa Troopa's get stronger with Might Guy's help. Might Guy would also promise to help the Koopa become stronger.
    • Shadow demonstrating that he's still honoring Maria's Dying Wish.
    • A lot of Marvel characters take a liking to Aquaman (both his current and Superfriends version) and comment they like him a lot better than Namor. Some like Hawkeye and Spider-Man even wish they can trade the DC Universe for him because he's an upgrade. Knowing that sometimes he struggles with never living it down as the joke character it's nice to know the Marvel Super Heroes genuinely like him regardless.
    • Vegeta's outro towards Trunks has him stating he's proud of him.
    • Yang's outro with Blake has her forgive her partner for leaving and that she's happy to have her back. Likewise, Blake's outro with Yang has her promise that she won't leave again.
    • 18's intro to Iron Man said that Carol mentioned him, both the good and the bad. Even after their bad falling out in Civil War its nice to know at least Carol still has some respect left for Tony.
      • Carol even later finds something her and Tony can agree on. Lex Luthor really deserved that ass kicking.
    • Superman assures SuperFriends Aquaman he would have won in the ocean, his home.
    • Saitama's intro to Popeye has him gleefully welcome the sailors challenge. In fact, it's made abudantly clear that Saitama is just happy that there's a person in the world who can fight on his level.
    • Dracula's outro seems to imply he has a bit of a soft spot for Jason Voorhees. For someone who has lost his ability to care about anyone not his wife it shows he still has some twisted sense of kindness.
    • As corny and Anviliocious as Mcgruff can get his fourth wall breaking feels like he's looking after the player. In particular, don't end up in an abusive relationship like Harley or don't let people like Rick Sanchez's nihilism get to you and how you the player deserve the best and matter. He also encourages you to go out there and be the best in Luigi's outro.
    • If Genos beats Popeye, he thanks the sailorman for giving Saitama the serious fight he always wanted.
    • Deku happens to be a fan of Luigi. More proof that he isn't in his brothers shadow as much as he thinks
Mario's great. But you were always my favorite, Luigi.
    • Deku and All Might give Superfriends Aquaman a confidence boost by telling him he's not useless and that everyone who wants to help and save innocents is worth being called a hero. Superfriends Aquaman thanks them happily for this.
    • The biggest super heroes from Marvel and DC are very encouraging towards Deku. Captain America sees a lot of his younger self in him and Batman of all people has a lot of faith in his abilities.
Batman Outro: You won't just be a part of the Hero Association...You're going to lead it.
    • In Stitch's outro with Steven Universe, after hearing how the latter also plays the ukelele, he asks if they can jam together later.
    • A couple of Ichigo's outro lines have him giving out messages from his opponents recently deceased friends/loved ones, such as Nana Shimura for All Might, the Kamado Clan for Tanjiro, Gerald Robotnik for Eggman, and even Dimitri's family, revealing they aren't the voices in his head constantly demanding revenge.
      • If Po wins against either Pit or Ichigo, he adds in a request for them:
"Got a message for Oogway if ya see him. 'Everyone's doing just fine'."
    • Jonathan's outro to Todoroki has him encouraging Todoroki to let Endeavour redeem himself. It might also induce teary eyes knowing Jonathans relationship with his own father.
"Your father seeks to redeem himself. Don't rob him of the chance."
    • A few from Silver Surfer:
      • Offering his condolences to Superman over what happened to Krypton, promising to grieve for both their worlds.
      • Letting Aang and Steven know that he finds their devotion to peace admirable. In the case of the latter, he also admits to being impressed that he was able to forgive and befriend the Diamond Authority, in spite of what they'd done.
      • Offering some words of encouragement to Kirby:
“Even without the Power Cosmic, the powers you wield truly are incredible, young one.”
    • John Wick's intro and outro toward Courage and Scooby-Doo shows he's not comfortable with hurting dogs.
    • In contrast to Makima calling Samurai Jack and Afro Samurai's battle boring, her rival Gojo is delighted to see them, and is ready to see what they can do in real time.
    • Courage and Scooby both show reluctance to fight each other due to the friendship they made during Straight Outta Nowhere.
    • Rick of all people, gives out two himself.
      • In his outro for Cloud, he tells him that sadly, Aerith is fated to die in each and every timeline, so he'll need to cherish every moment he spends with her.
      • In his outro for Spider-Man, he offers to take him to a timeline where he and MJ remain together.
    • The Doctor's outro for Harry Potter implies that the Boy Who Lived was kind enough to give him an autograph.
  • Same goes for any interactions between a character and their friends/loved ones in a Friendship.
    • Wonder Woman's Friendship, Amazon Training, features her picking up a wooden sword and play-fighting a bunch of little girls in Amazon costumes with their own wooden swords.
    • Mike Haggar replaces his pipe with a heavy wrench to... unscrew part of a fire hydrant and produce a spray of water for a bunch of little kids to play in.
    • Vegeta is about to blast his unfortunate opponent, when he reacts to and catches... a football. It was thrown by his son, Trunks, who beckons him to throw it back, which the Prince of All Saiyans complies. The two continue playing catch, proving that Chi-Chi was right in saying that he became a good dad by the time of Super.
    • Superman assists an old woman across a road.
    • Cloud receives an encouraging letter from his friends, including Tifa (and that includes whether Tifa's the opponent who's just lost to him). It prompts a When He Smiles response.
    • Tifa Lockhart mixes up an appealing drink for the player. Because at the end of the day, she's a bartender as well as a brawler.
    • Mega Man uses Rush to reach an apple in a tree, then gives Rush the apple. Pet the Dog indeed!
    • Jeanne and Bayonetta have a brief game of patty-cake, then Jeanne bops her friend on the head, and then they have a playful slap-fight, rounding it off with sisterly hugs. Brings to mind Kitana and Mileena playing together in the former's Friendship in Mortal Kombat 11.
    • Bowser is dog-piled by Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings, and he cheerfully frolics with them. Solid proof that Even Evil Has Loved Ones.
    • Cammy White takes time out to stroke some Cute Kittens.
    • Ken has a Big Damn Reunion with his son Mel.
    • The Hulk getting friendly with some Precious Puppies.
    • Android 18 takes time out to play with her daughter Maron.
    • McGruff delivers a PSA to the audience, saying "Remember, kids, if you ever find yourself in a pickle, always try to use words before throwing hands. Save the fighting for the pro leagues, whether it be for physical sports or video games. Thanks for deciding to use a Friendship." The proud smile he delivers afterwards crowns the whole piece.
    • Twilight Sparkle turns an apple into a nest full of eggs. All the eggs hatch into fluffy yellow chicks who all imprint on Twilight, and she happily nuzzles two of them.
    • Crash celebrates his triumph with his sister Coco, doing the iconic dance from the N. Sane Trilogy.
    • Spyro uses his Breath Weapons to create a sculpture of Cynder out of ice, prompting her to show him some Alternate Animal Affection.
    • Aquaman dives into a pool and does a few tricks with a friendly dolphin.
    • Volnutt builds a model rocket and fires it into the air. After it fails to come down for a few minutes, he looks disappointed... and then the rocket lands, and little figurines of his friends- Sera, Yuna, and Volnutt himself- are released from the rocket. Volnutt's so proud, he sheds a Single Tear.
    • Black Widow dons a ballerina's outfit and performs a slow but graceful dance to a paying audience, after which the crowd cheers and someone throws Natasha a rose. A beautiful reminder that there's more to Black Widow than the superspy/assassin.
    • Weiss summons the Arma Gigas (who this time is closer to Weiss' own height), and the two do a small ice-skating routine that ends with Weiss pirouetting into the Arma Gigas' arms and doing an elegant pose.
    • Mitsuru builds a snowman... specifically, a snowman she then equips with a red mask, golden shoulder-blades, and a skipping-rope "whip" in one of its' arms. She then turns it into a perfect replica of Artemisia, and Persona and Persona-User both cuddle one another.
    • Miles creates a picture of himself balancing his family life with his life as a Spider-hero.
    • Black Canary and Green Arrow do a tango together.
    • Todoroki spends some Awkward Father-Son Bonding Activity with his father Endeavor, sitting on top of a building watching a sunset over U.A. High School, sharing slushies that Todoroki created with his Quirk. And they smile contentedly together. Endeavor's come a long way since the days when he was Todoroki's Archnemesis Dad.
    • Billy Butcher takes a break from being a brutal '90s Anti-Hero and has a night in with the rest of the Boys, playing a game of Candyland.
    • Starlight is visited by a crowd of people cheering for her after she wins the fight, including her boyfriend Hughie right at the front row, and a man in a suit gives her a large trophy as a reward. That's Starlight in a nutshell: a Hope Bringer even in the Crapsack World of The Boys.
    • The Blue Team holds a party instead of shooting their opponent, and all their friends and loved ones join them in celebrating.
    • Spider-Gwen goes to hang out with the rest of the Spider-Verse crew at a carnival. And yes, the crew includes Miles, even if she's just beat Miles in a fight.
    • Just the fact that Aang and Sanji have movesets that enable them to stay true to their vows of Thou Shalt Not Kill and Wouldn't Hit a Girl, respectively. Aang's "Fatalities" aren't actually lethal (one of them sends you to the Spirit Realm and the other one consists of Aang Energybending his opponent), and Sanji has an entirely different moveset if his opponent is female, in which he lowers their hitpoints by romancing them instead of attacking them. It speaks volumes for Aang, too, when you consider that two other famous "No-Kill" characters, Batman and Spider-Man, have lethal Fatalities, but not him.
    • Rock Lee's Friendship consists of Might Guy congratulating him on his triumph, and Lee happily hugging his mentor.
    • Broly is on the verge of going into an Unstoppable Rage, but then his anger is soothed by the timely arrival of his True Companions Cheelai and Lemo saying, "It's okay, big guy. Fight's over." And Broly sits down and relaxes with them after they give him a Cooldown Hug.
    • Ryuko has a reunion with her friend Mako.
    • Devil Jin prepares to kill his opponent when Jun Kazama appears and calms him down, turning him back into regular Jin.
    • Batman's Hellbat suit starts malfunctioning and he nearly dies, before Superman & Wonder Woman help him out and Bruce gets a hug from Damian Wayne and Barbara Gordon.

    • Kool Aid Man is called to a beach party, and gladly pours the revelers some Kool Aid.
    • Oni taking selfies with Elena.
    • Korra playing with Naga like she were a dog.
    • Storm and Black Panther flying kites together.
    • Madara taking care of a bonsai tree.
    • Aizen turns into his fourth Evolved State and summons butterflies to his side, allowing one of them to perch on his hand.
    • Harley receiving a bouquet of flowers from Poison Ivy and a bottle of champagne from Booster Gold.
    • Omni-Man playing catch with his son.
    • Deku and All Might playing with action figures of each other.
    • The Chosen Undead, Solaire and Fire Keeper chilling at a bonfire. Considering the state of disrepair there world is in, it's nice seeing them enjoy themselves.

    • Scooby sharing a giant sandwich with Shaggy.

The Doctor: "You did it, player! Just this once, EVERYONE LIVES!"
  • Several Endings can bring a warm feeling to a reader’s chest.
    • Shang Tsung's ending has him of all people have a change of heart. After consuming all the souls of Death Battle and driven to madness, one soul (heavily implied to be Spider-Man) teaches him about great power and great responsibility. Also heartwarming in hindsight when one takes into account that Mortal Kombat 1 has a timeline where they are allies.
    • Yoshi is recognized as a hero to the Mushroom Kingdom, equal to Mario and Luigi.
    • Flash II decides to run a "victory lap" with the rest of the Flash Family.
    • Steven Universe goes on a late night stroll on the beach to do some self reflection. He’s later joined not just by his friend/love interest Connie, but also his opponent Star Butterfly and her friend Marco, showing that the Gem-Human hybrid and the Mewman truly buried the hatchet from their Death Battle.
    • Koopa Troopa decides against bringing Bowser home with it and getting promoted, instead becoming a Dimensional Traveler to find a purpose in life.
    • Korra recruits Storm to help her have a fun vacation with Asami.
    • Storm makes up with T'Challa and remarries him.
    • Harley opens up a psych ward to help the other combatants with their problems. Her first patient? Hulk.

    • Jason’s ending sees him reunite with his mother Pamela.
    • Courage's ending has him inviting Mystery Inc. to dinner at the Bagge residence.
  • Despite how some opponents get off on the wrong foot in their initial battle quite a few of them don't bare any grudges regardless of outcome and are willing to work together to get back to their respective worlds.
  • Many opponents mentioned some of their allies and friends. seemingly off screen. Some even manage to hit it off and don't find any defeats personal. Sonya for instance allows Chun-Li to vent about it and even admits Cammy has a good friend watching her back.
  • Scarlet Witch and Zatanna's rival cutscenes feature Zatanna comforting Wanda after helping her escape an illusion meant to break her.
  • Considering Alucard's wish is to be killed by a fully human adversary, it's sweet in just how many Humble Heroes are there with enough power to give the guy his wish, especially people like Jonathan and Kenshiro.
