Heartwarming / Dark Nights: Death Metal

Go To

  • Upon being sent her new prisoner, Wonder Woman recognizes him and defies the Batman Who Laughs' orders to confirm their identity: Wally West. Within seconds, she pulls the poor man into a Cooldown Hug and tells him to rest, as he's clearly exhausted and traumatized from his ordeal the past few years.
  • The second issue also sees the first reunion between Wally and Jay Garrick (and the Justice Society of America), who immediately hug one another and Jay says he'll never forget Wally again.
    • Speed Metal continues this for the Flash, as Wally and Barry finally and firmly heal the schism that's been going on since Perfect Storm, and Barry lets Wally lead the charge again. It goes further as Wally reunites with both his wife and kids, and the rest of the Flash family. He even trades some playful banter with Bart (who he's not seen since before Flashpoint).
  • In issue #4, Wonder Woman fights with Superboy Prime as he's about to pull the trigger to give the Darkest Knight everything he needs to complete his plans. Wonder Woman begs of him not to do it, emploring him to help her create a multiverse where anything can happen, even his "perfect" earth. He thinks it's just a shot in the dark, but she counters back that so is Superman. It cuts away... And then we see the Trinity rising out of the Dark Multiverse, SUPERBOY PRIME ALONG WITH THEM. If there ever was a person who could talk down the most hated and despicable character in comics, it's Wonder Woman.
  • In Last Stories of the Multiverse, Wally shows up for the Titans gathering and the first half of the story ends with everyone worried that things were going to go to shit, especially when Donna glares Wally down. When the story picks up, Donna approaches Wally...and hugs him, understanding what he's went through.
  • The original Duela Dent and Bette Kane as Bat-Girl are included among the shot of the Bronze Age Teen Titans. It's sweet to see the original Duela receiving acknowledgment after she was replaced by her much-loathed New 52 knockoff, while Bette's receiving acknowledgment of her having been the original Batgirl.
  • Also in Last Stories, Green Arrow and Black Canary decide to spend what they believe is their last day alive together, having a "date" of sorts. This leads to them meeting the daughter of an alternate reality version of themselves, who is mourning the death of her universe (and thus, their counterparts/her parents), making Oliver and Dinah basically adopt this scared girl and happily embrace her as part of their family. It also ends with confirmation Oliver was planning to propose to Dinah, but decided against it because the timing isn't suited for something like that.
  • Secret Origin ends with Superboy-Prime sacrificing himself to give the multiverse a fighting chance. The multiverse responds by resurrecting Prime on his Earth-Prime, given his own Krypto and a second chance at hopefully becoming the hero he should have been. He also bonds for a second with Krypto remembering the first comic story he ever read that had Krypto in it.
    • Even before that, while Superboy-Prime just sits by his lonesome, being talked behind his back about how his Heel–Face Turn probably won't stick and he'll turn on them. Which he can clearly hear thanks to his Super Hearing. He just sits silently contemplating to himself... And then there's Krypto sitting before him, smiling and panting. Not even the least bit intimidated or sensing any form of evil from Superboy-Prime. This touches Superboy-Prime enough that he actually smiles and now is motivated to fight against the Batman Who Laughs.
  • Rise of the New God reveals that even if evil finally triumphs and the multiverse falls into ruin, the Chronicler, a function of the greater Omniverse, becoming a believer in DC's stories ensures it will never truly die in the grandest scheme of existence.
