"Te amo..."

  • Manny in general shows utter devotion towards Nellie for most of the movie as a result of his love towards her, which naturally leads to a lot of sweet moments.
    • Manny happens to come across Nellie surrounded by a crowd of fans when in New York. She happily greets him upon spotting him, and he helps her get into her car. When he expresses surprise that she remembered him, she replies that there's no way she'd ever forget about him.
    • After Nellie decides to fight the rattlesnake instead of her father due to him passing out, Manny is the only person to object and tries to stop her. And when the snake does bite her and lodges into her neck, Manny tries to get it off of her; while he fails to do so, it's still a valiant effort.
    • While Manny lashes out at Nellie when she asks him for help covering her gambling debts since he blames her for ruining his life, he agrees to help her after reminiscing about their friendship, especially when they bonded over their love of movies when they first met. When begging him to help her, Nellie also says that she came to him because he's her only friend and he was always nice to her.
    • Manny telling Nellie he loves her when trying to convince her to run away Mexico with him, and telling her that all he wants to do is marry her and make her happy. This gets Nellie, who'd just been expressing doubts and had already resigned to her fate at the hands at the mob, to calm down and agree with him. She then gets the attention of some nearby photographers and introduces Manny as her husband-to-be, and they share their first kiss as they slow dance. It's a shame that their happiness turns out to be very short-lived.
  • Jack, despite his various eccentricities, is nothing but nice to Manny, bringing him to a movie set for the first time and praising him to the producers and executives despite having only known him for a couple of hours. After he finds out that Manny has been hired by a rival studio and therefore won't be working with Jack anymore, he's happy for Manny and tells him that he's a hard worker and deserves it.
  • Manny meets Sidney while working on the same movie together, and when he asks him what he thinks, Sidney replies that the camera is facing the wrong people, referring to the orchestra that he's leading. This gets Manny the idea to let Sidney headline his own musical film, which becomes a big success. When an executive compliments Manny for coming up with the idea, Manny says that it was a collaborative effort between him and Sidney and tries to give him some credit for it too.
  • Jack goes to Elinor's house and confronts her for an article she wrote about his declining popularity, to which Elinor bluntly responds that there's nothing he can do about it and that they'll all be replaced someday by the hundreds of aspiring stars that'll come afterwards. It's a harsh statement, but she then tries to reassure him that he will live on through his movies and essentially achieve immortality through them, and that there's a comfort to be found in that. Jack's only response as he leaves is a quiet but sincere "thank you for that".
  • Manny watches Singin' in the Rain in tears:
    • The camera pans to the whole cinema of people watching too, followed by a montage of all sorts of movies throughout the decades, from the early days of moviemaking all the way to the 21st century, is this. It serves as a reminder that whatever Damien Chazelle thinks about Hollywood and the fickle nature of it, he still ultimately believes in the movies themselves and the power they have to make us feel.
    • Manny also begins crying when he sees the scene of Lina Lamont trying to recite her lines and struggling due to her Vocal Dissonance, being clearly reminded of Nellie and the way he tried to do something similar with her. And the very last shot of the movie is Manny smiling as he realizes that he really did make an impact and accomplished what he set out to do two decades ago.
