Heartwarming / A Wrinkle in Time (2018)

Go To

  • The entire prologue, where we see a younger Meg spend time with her father before they meet her newly adopted brother Charles Wallace.
    • Meg's father taking the time to teach her that no matter what, the love her parents have for her is always there.
  • The Arc Words in the movie: "Not gone, just enfolded."
  • Mrs. Whatsit's compliment that the Murry family has done a good job "keeping out the darkness". In hindsight, she's not just innocently remarking that they've literally kept the house lit, she's saying they've done a good job keeping the figurative darkness at bay.
  • Charles Wallace's friendship with Mrs. Whatsit.
    • Likewise, Calvin's friendship with Mrs. Who, even recognizing a couple of the quotes she uses. At some point, they even have their own secret handshake.
  • Mrs. Which's speech to Meg, helping the latter's confidence in herself.
  • Calvin telling Meg that he likes her hair. It is significant that her hair is naturally curly, given the connotations of "good hair" (i.e. straight or wavy rather than Afro-textured) in the Black community.
    • Especially Heartwarming when The IT is tempting Meg with a new version of herself, and this copy has straightened hair. Meg's rejection of the copy symbolizes her acceptance of herself, including her appearance.
  • The beautiful poignant music that plays in two scenes: First, the flashback of Mr. Murry tessering after seeing his wife nurse the infant Charles Wallace, because it implies that love is what triggered his ability to tesser. And later when Meg finds her way to her imprisoned father, whilst Calvin watches with awe.
  • Meg's reunion with her father, particularly his absolute awe and wonder over her.
    • Later, his reunion with the non-possessed Charles Wallace and his wife. Especially considering this is the first time he's really "met" Charles Wallace given that he disappeared when Charles Wallace was still a baby.
  • Just like in the book, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which naming all the previous Earth warriors of light, including Nelson Mandela.
    • And the cherry on top? They name Meg as one of the newest warriors.
  • Meg finally being able to tesser willingly, given what it signifies: that she's learned to be one with the universe, and learned to love herself.
  • In the ending, Meg waving hello to Veronica after the former's adventure, especially with the knowledge that her bully is a lonely, insecure anorexic. In turn, she waves back, first unsurely, then warmly.
    • Fridge-Heartwarming: she's carrying out her new-found duty as a warrior of light.
  • The final quote Mrs. Who gives, from Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, referring to how more warriors for the Light will join just like Meg: "Tomorrow there'll be more of us."
