Headscratchers / Tremors 3: Back to Perfection

Go To

So Burt said he had a concrete box built around his compound, both on the sides and on the bottom in order to make it Graboid proof. Two feet thick, and steel reinforced. How exactly do you pour that much concrete underground over such a large area, while still avoiding the ground caving in? Is this something that's actually physically possible?

  • He could have tore up his basement, dug a big hole, and then laid the steel foundation before then pouring the concrete. After that, it's just a matter of fixing the floor again and then making sure the exterior was given the same treatment.
  • Or he did all that on a patch of open dirt near his house, then reassembled his house inside the new compound. If there's one resource Perfection (pop. 14) has to spare, it's unclaimed space.

So Burt is all geared up for Graboid hunting, has brought plenty of ammunition and likely firearms to spare for everyone that's going to be present and assisting on the matter. And he chooses to include a double-barreled shotgun in the arsenal he brings into the field? Really? Burt Gummer of all people? It's not like he had a limited selection to choose from, so why was it even included in the first place?

  • Not the worst weapon actually, especially if he was planning to hand it off to a rookie. Powerful at close range, likely powerful enough to one-shot a Shrieker and do not inconsiderable damage to a Graboid tongue if things get hairy. Beyond that, they're usually very simple to load and operate, hardly ever jam, don't have a lot of fragile or complicated parts to break, and often don't even have a safety switch that you forget to turn off when you need to shoot.
