Why not beat the curse through writing?
  • The curse only seems to affect people, making them incapable of hearing or remembering anything about Tigana, right down to it's name. However, Brandin had to have all the books in Tigana destroyed to make sure it's memory was wiped out even after the curse was lifted upon his own death. Why aren't the Tiganans who escaped to Alberico's lands writing down all the stories, songs and poetry that they can remember so that they can be read after Brandin is dead?
  • Alberico controls half the Peninsula of the Hand. Are we seriously expected to belief that no written records about Tigana exist in those four provinces that would've been beyond Brandin's reach to destroy?
  • Considering that the curse works even on people who were alive when Tigana was a country, it’s likely that trying to read those books would result in the same blank, confused reaction as hearing it.
  • Alberico writes a letter to Brandin mentioning Tigana and the prince who killed Stevan, and the narration mentions that nobody who read that part of the letter would be able to comprehend the Tigana part except for Brandin.
