- Why does the cult sacrifice all their children except for one? Supposedly they do it to make sure the cult survives. In other words, they follow a one-child-per couple policy, which would eventually lead to their group dying out. In reality, to keep the population stable, each couple would need to produce two children. That, of course, does not take into account that some of those children may die before reaching adulthood, fail to reproduce at all, or leave the cult.
- This might be avoided if the entire cult were poly and the firstborn of each pairing was allowed to live, but then why would any mother choose to have two children with the same father?
