Headscratchers / The Great Muppet Caper

  • Why didn't more Muppets go up against Nicky and the models? The Muppets outnumbered the jewel thieves, so they could have done better. But most of them wasted time playing baseball leaving only Beauregard and Animal to fight against them. While it is hilarious and the Muppets do manage to hold them off for a few minutes, their plan nearly backfires when Nicky catches the diamond and grabs Kermit to take him hostage. If Miss Piggy hadn't arrived in time, the thieves would have won. The Muppets' mission after all was to stop them from stealing the diamond.

  • Regarding the scene where Nicky frames Miss Piggy for stealing Lady Holiday's diamond necklace. Miss Piggy took the necklace out of her coat pocket, was obviously surprised to discover it, and even admitted that it didn't belong to her. So why was she accused and why did nobody question the matter? If Miss Piggy had really been guilty, you'd think she would have tried to keep the necklace hidden. It would make more sense for Nicky to "find" it in her pocket, or to let Lady Holiday discover it. Also, Kermit was right there and he knew full well that Miss Piggy was innocent. So why didn't he try to defend her?

  • Why did Miss Piggy have to break into the house at 17 Highbrow Street instead of waiting outside for Kermit? The only reason I can think of is that she wouldn't be able to show Kermit the house if she did so, but when Kermit arrived, she was ready to go and only showed him the house when he said they had a few minutes. But I think the worst case if Kermit had expressed interest in seeing it, she could just claim she locked the door as she was coming out. They were lucky the couple took their intrusion so well. They could have had the police called on them, and Miss Piggy's scheme would have been exposed to Kermit. But that also leads to another question, if 17 Highbrow Street hadn't been a real address, how would their plan have worked out?

  • Who was "Dirty Bird"?
  • What's the deal with the kitchen? In the Happiness Hotel song, they say there's no point ordering dinner because there's no kitchen anymore. Then a few minutes later, the trio considers getting room service and is told there's no food. Then several scenes later, Beauregard crashes into the kitchen while the Swedish Chef is preparing food and it's treated like a regular occurrence.
    • Maybe just before the song, the kitchen had been trashed in some other slapstick mishap and all the food had been ruined. Then the next day they got it up and running again, only for Beauregard to crash into it.

  • Is the CB lingo in England really the same as in the United States?

  • Why did the thieves have to frame Miss Piggy for stealing Lady Holiday's jewels? Nicky didn't want to because of his attraction to her, and wished there was another way, but he framed her anyway because Lady Holiday's models convinced him it was the only way they could get off scot-free. Why was it the only way? They couldn't find someone else to frame? Or the models were just trolling Nicky?

  • When Miss Piggy was framed for stealing Lady Holiday's necklace, Lady Holiday actually believed she stole it. Ironically, Gonzo himself believed that before discovering who the real thieves were from the photo he took, but Kermit pointed out that Miss Piggy couldn't have stolen it because she was dancing on stage. Lady Holiday saw her dancing and yet she still believes Miss Piggy is responsible for the theft even though she wasn't even close to Lady Holiday?

  • The answer to all of the above? Rule of Funny, of course. After all, it is a Muppet Movie.
