Headscratchers / Star Trek The Next Generation S 6 E 6 True Q

Go To

  • If the Q are so concerned that Amanda will use her powers without restraint, why kill her and not simply strip her of her powers and let her live as an actual human, much like they did to Q himself?
    • Also Q are shown that they can just decide to give a non-Q their powers and take it back just as easily, just as they did with Riker.
    • It's never explained, but they may see this as grotesquely "inhuman" (so to speak), perhaps akin to removing a human's legs because they don't want to walk or run. One Voyager Q episode strongly suggests they have a deep religious/philosophical foundation in their society around these issues, and a couple others imply it as well. Riker was a special case so who knows, but Q being stripped of his powers was considered a death sentence.
    • Amanda having been born as a Q in human form may also leave them with a potential anomaly that they aren't sure how to deal with. During the Q Civil War Q observed that a born Q would create a new form of Q to bring in new ideas and potential, and while other sources affirm that Amanda isn't the same kind of Q as Q's son as she was born in human form where Q's son was conceived in the Continuum itself, the Continuum may be unsure if they can take Amanda's power without killing her.
