  • The whole point for Picard to be changing the way he spent his youth is to learn that it was better for him to have taken risks than to have always played it safe. Yet during his attempts to always play it safe, he recklessly goes for a romantic encounter with Marta, finally acting on their mutual attraction, and it destroys their friendship. Isn't that the opposite of the lesson he's supposed to be learning?
    • It wasn't reckless. Marta was a friend, and Picard had a more mature mindset than his 20's self. His 20's self wasn't concerned with his older date's feelings; when the safer-minded Picard wanted to slow things down, she got insulted. Picard as an older-minded man would have wanted to have a relationship with Marta, which she did not want.
