- How did Pike know that Boimler was an ensign? Boimler is wearing a single pip, which in the 24th century is the rank of ensign. However, in the 23rd century, a single stripe designated lieutenant. Ensigns had no stripe on their sleeve. Pike should have started with "Lieutenant" and then been corrected by Boimler.
- The pip system was previously used in Enterprise-era and Disco-era uniforms (as indents on the badges). So he'd have recognised the pattern from there.
