• The fact that symbionts are supposed to disassociate themselves from the loved ones of previous hosts never seems to affect Dax's close friendship with Sisko. She even points out their close relationship in this very episode.
  • It is stated that they can not have relationships with other joined Trills that they might know from a previous life, as that would create a new society different from the rest of the Trill. Sisko is human with a limited lifespan and he will eventually die, while the symbionts are immortal.
