Headscratchers / Spider-Man: Miles Morales

  • Where did the Tinkerer get the resources to make all those programmable matter weapons for the Underground?
    • According to Danika's podcast, the Underground used to steal from the Maggia and the Inner Demons and work with Tombstone's gang. The Maggia also stole a lot of Sabletech in the last game, implying the Tinkerer's just been upgrading the existing hardware.
  • Why didn't Peter make more of his gadgets for Miles? Impact Webbing and the Trip Mines would've been a big help.
    • Peter is currently unemployed and I think just making his own gadgets would be expensive enough without trying to make more for his student.
    • Peter is also still training Miles in the nuances of his basic abilities to judge from the training missions, so he may not have had time yet to train him on the maintenance and use of all his gadgets.
    • A more practical reason is Peter may not want Miles to start off dependent on all the gadgets. Most of those gadgets are built around stealth. Not something Peter intended for Miles to handle alone.
  • Didn't the first game say that the cure developed for Doc Connors wasn't permanent? How is he human again in the stinger?
    • Connors has never been permanently cured, but that has never meant he was the Lizard all the time. What we see probably takes place during the rather long periods of humanity he experiences.
    • As we have taken a glimpse of him currently working for Norman, it may well be that the latter provided some sort of cure for Connors' condition off-screen in exchange for the doc's oversight of Harry Osborn's recuperation.
      • Furthermore, it might be that it's an ongoing treatment for Connors' condition over a straight-up cure, thereby keeping him loyal.
  • Given that Roxxon has three secondary labs in NYC, all of which are running on Nuform generators, why can't they get the sample they need to reproduce the formula by shutting down one of them and extracting a Nuform canister from the lab's reactor?
    • Maybe there isn't enough? The reactors we see are rather small compared to the rather large container the Tinkerer stole. They also probably want to try and get that fresh container back before dipping into the supply they were already using.
  • Aren't there federal laws about the labelling and transportation of volatile chemicals? The fact that Nuform could explode with sufficient force to destroy a bridge, regardless of who is blamed for igniting it, should have triggered a high-level investigation into why Roxxon hadn't told anyone the stuff was explosive.
    • The explosion caused at the bridge could have been attributed to a gas leak or the like, as there was already a superpowered skirmish going on amid several heavy-duty vehicles between Miles and the Underground before that Roxxon could have used to blame the gas leak, and thus the explosion, on, effectively scapegoating them and negating the need to instigate an investigation. Sure enough, if you listen to Jameson's podcast shortly after the bridge incident, there's no mention of Nuform being suspected of causing the bridge collapse, as he instead denounces the Underground for stirring up the debacle, and, as par for the course, lambasts Spider-Man for escalating the crisis.
    • Roxxon also has considerable influence in government, which may help them head off potential investigations.
  • How is Peter able to set up numerous technologically-advanced holographic training simulations for Miles to hone his skills with all over the city with him presumably having a tight budget at the present time (having gone out of work after the events of the first game and being currently unemployed)?
    • When his rogue's gallery includes the likes of Mysterio, it's not impossible to assume that he could have adapted some of Beck's tech during some unseen encounter between the two games to give Miles more experience.
  • How did Krieger expect to buy up all of Manhattan after his reactor blew it up? Even if it was blamed on the Underground.
    • The reactor is seemingly only a threat to Harlem and his insurance means he doesn't really care about losing his own facility there. Krieger intends to present himself the innocent victim of a terrorist attack and use this to attract sympathy and investment to further expand his operations in New York and elsewhere.
  • Given that everyone knows the Storm of the Century is coming, why does Peter not make sure to be back before it hits? Given that the storm is likely to disrupt air travel, you'd think it would make sense to return in good time just in case something goes down while the city is cut off.
    • It’s possible the storm caused all flights to New York to be cancelled prematurely. Considering the number of terrorist threats in the Marvel universe, both superpowered and not, it’s a safe bet that the FAA in that universe is even jumpier than in ours. Not to mention Symkaria is a war zone at the moment, making leaving the country even harder, regardless of your credentials.
    • Following up on the previous answer, Peter told Miles the assignment was gonna be a few weeks. Plus, Miles assured Pete that he could handle it, even when things started getting explodey, thus, older Spider-Man trusted the younger one and likely saw no reason to go back on his promise, to either his protege or Mary Jane.
  • Exactly what is Roxxon or in the very least Simon Krieger expecting to get out of this whole ordeal by insisting on selling Nuform, ignoring the fact that he's an greedy uncaring sociopath, Nuform is insanely toxic and will inevitably get a lot of people sick and killed and no doubt will lead back to Roxxon since they are promoting it like crazy, the mountain of lawsuits and lawyer bills alone will eat up what money they're going to get from selling it that is if they're lucky not to get criminal charges against them. The whole plan seems like them shooting themselves in the foot so what gives?
    • Honestly, Krieger can claim no fault in the event the Nuform makes people sick, just say that the R & D assured him it was safe, the whole "I'm not a scientist, I'm a businessman." line.
    • The simple answer is that Krieger, like most sociopaths, has a bad understanding of long-term consequences and an inflated opinion of his own sneakiness. The project would have gone down in flames anyway, but Spider-Man prevented it from causing a disaster in the meantime.
  • Harry's research stations from the previous game aren't present in the game map. Doesn't that mean the research missions Peter did was for nothing, implying that the research stations did get shut down? (probably for gameplay purposes but still wondering if there were any story reasons for it)
    • The research missions were almost all optional, so any research done by Peter is only questionably canon. As for a story reason for them to be gone, maybe after the Devil's Breath fiasco the people of New York didn't want more Oscorp science on their rooftops?
  • The game makes it clear that Miles shutting off the first Nuform generator fried Phins phone and made the evidence inside it inaccessible but wouldn't they be able to record Miles watching it through his mask? The game established earlier that Ganke can see everything that Miles sees through the computer. Wouldn't they have the means to record live footage on that computer?
  • Stupidly minor but I can't help myself: that car that catches on fire during the "Can I get a photo?" mission SURELY deserves to be ticketed for parking in front of a hydrant, right? Sucks about your car but you shouldn't even be parked there...
