• How is Ava competing against modern decks using her mom's cards, which may be well over a decade old? Aren't there rules against using too-old cards in official competitions?
  • Either the competitions allow old cards, or the ones she's using are just older versions of ones that have since been reprinted. Since Joshua and Celestine were able to trade at Internationals for copies of all the cards Ava had in her deck, she's clearly not the only person running them.
  • In addition, she's clearly added more modern cards to her deck. She has Pokemon like Tsareena (which had been around for less than seven years when the show was made), and a careful look at her cards reveals she has ones from much more recent expansions, such as Defiance Band from Scarlet & Violet. She just stuck with Oddish as her main and built a deck around it.
