Headscratchers / Point Break (1991)

  • During the skydiving dilemma which Bodhi forces by saying "Nah, you pull it... You gotta drop the gun, right? If you use your other hand, what you gonna hold on with?", Utah eventually concedes and drops his gun to pull the cord. However, it is possible to grip onto someone with an arm whilst also holding a handgun, e.g. round the crook of the elbow. I have to figure that Utah has some experience with joint and headlocks from his FBI training, so couldn't he e.g. shoulder lock Bodhi with the gun hand and use his other to pull the 'chute? This would allow him to maintain the grip, allow the parachute to eject and transition his gun to the other hand to maintain the holdup of Bodhi right the way down to the ground. Plus, with or without that, there's also always "the hooks" aka locking your ankles around your opponent to maintain a lower body control and grip.
    • He couldn't do those things because Bodhi would have resisted them, and Bodhi doesn't care if the chute never opens. Plus, Utah is under far too much time pressure to think of alternatives.

  • Why the hell would you use your real name when going undercover?
    • Johnny couldn't have used a fake name. His identity was public; Bodhi even recognized him. It is true that a serious football fan might have known Johnny joined the FBI, though; pointed out in Artistic License – Law Enforcement on the main page.
