Headscratchers / Nestor, the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey

Go To

  • Why on earth does Nestor go back to Olaf's stable in the end instead of staying with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus? I understand that the writers wanted a Rudolph–style ending where everyone who previously mocked Nestor lauds him as a hero. But in this case, it feels wrong in so many ways! For starters, Olaf's stable is in a different country than Bethlehem, from which Nestor made a long journey led by Tilly. How did he get back? Secondly, how would Olaf and the other animals know about Nestor's heroism in bringing the pregnant Mary to Bethlehem, and how – unless angels or cherubs paid a visit to them too – would they know its significance? How does it make sense for them to celebrate Nestor in the end? Third, and most importantly, Olaf wasn't a mild Jerk with a Heart of Gold like Santa Claus in Rudolph. He refused to feed Nestor because he didn't "earn his keep" – Nestor's mother only kept him alive by sharing her own food with him – and he finally threw him out into the storm to freeze, which led to his mother's death! Why would Nestor want to go back to this man when he has kind, loving new owners in Mary and Joseph?
