• Does Brian's mom assume that Brian is gay? His best friend is Eric, who doesn't exactly hide in the closet. She obviously isn't bigoted about the issue of homosexuality (which is quite impressive for someone in a conservative part of a conservative state in the conservative 1980s and early 1990s - a time when the HIV/AIDS crisis distorted the views of many towards the gay community) but even those with a liberal outlook often jump to conclusions in such a situation. Eric himself states that he gets an asexual vibe from Brian.
