• Prior to Justice League, why didn't Lex take preventive measures to avoid getting cancer from the Kryptonite he's always carrying around? He had to have known about Kryptonite poisoning, especially after the reveal that all the owners of the Kryptonite dragon statue in Superman: The Animated Series died from it.
  • The crossover said all the owners died mysteriously, not that they died of cancer specifically. Lex would have written that off as superstition — if he'd even been told it in the first place. Lex has nothing to do with the dragon statue or the theft. Grabbing it was all Joker's idea and plot.
  • Also, Luthor's disdain for Superman as an "alien" may have inclined him to take a black-and-white view of Kryptonite as "harmless to humans, deadly to Superman"^note In fact, he said just that when the doctor told him what was wrong. without thinking it through properly and considering the possibility that it's harmless to humans in the short term, but ultimately just as dangerous as any mundane form of radiation.
