• Is there an explanation for why Fred the Squirrel has an American accent despite being a British red squirrel?
  • Translation Convention. Fred isn't the only animal with an American accent even though he's not American. Chee-Chee, Betsy, Plimpton and Yoshi all speak in American accent even though none of them can be American... even Dab-Dab, who is presumably British, has an American accent. The explanation is simple: Except for Polynesia, none of them are actually speaking English. The voices we as audiences hear are convenient translations, and the accents are more a characterization thing than a regional thing.
