Headscratchers / Doctor Who S30E16 "The Waters of Mars"

Go To

  • Maggie tries to convince Yuri to let her out of quarantine, showing that the Flood can take over hosts, imitate human speech, all without the other humans suspecting a thing. So why is it they never use this trick again?
    • I personally assumed that 'trick' was actually Maggie still having a degree of control or awareness of herself in the early stages of infection before the Flood took complete control of her body; after the infection progressed beyond a certain point, the Flood didn't have access to enough of the host's mind to use their memories.
  • How does Maggie's infected form survive Gould *blowing up the rocket she's currently on*? Even if the Flood don't require functioning organs to move about, how is it she's not giblets?
    • Perhaps she retreated to thaw the frozen pool while the virus worked its magic on Gould?
  • The Doctor could have saved most of the crew and avoided changing the fixed point in time if he had only transported the survivors a century (or heck, even a few dozen years) into the future and instructed them to assume new identities. The Mars base blew up in an explosion that would obliterate any human remains, so everyone on Earth at the time of the explosion would still believe that the crew had all died, leaving the fixed point unchanged.
  • How does Adelaide dying by suicide in her home instead of heroically sacrificing herself on a space mission still inspire her descendants to continue her work?
