Headscratchers / Disenchanted (2022)

  • When the world becomes magic the kitchen devices in the house begin singing and dancing, but no other technology is ever seen enchanted - the world outside has got medieval. What about the cars, smartphones, etc?
    • It is possible that this is due to how slowly the wish works. As we see in the final act the wish actually "robs" Andalasia of its magical content to throw it into Monroeville, so clearly the wish can't just change everything on the spot (as we also see by Giselle's slow transformation). As a result, it makes sense that the world created by the wish is just a bizarre mish-mash of Monroeville and Andalasia elements, that gets more and more "Andalasian" as the movie goes on as more of Andalasia is poured to "drown" Monroeville.
  • What happened to Giselle's new "fairy-tale" dress business as shown in the previous film's epilogue? Didn't Robert quit his dead-end lawyer job to run that business with her? It can be presumed she stepped away from the business to care for the baby, but the business is never mentioned in the film and Robert is back in his lawyer job. Did the writers... watch the last film?
    • I don't think it's said that Robert quit his lawyer job at the end of the last film. Just that Giselle ran her dress business. He's seen in slightly less formal clothes in the scene there but it's never said whether he quit his job or not, so we can assume no. Giselle probably did give up the business for a while in favour of being a full-time mother (since she doesn't appear to look for work in Monroeville). As she would have done so when she got pregnant, she's likely been away from the business for a year at this point, so the characters probably just don't see fit to mention it.

  • Why does Morgan not apologise to Giselle at the end for all the hurtful things she said to Giselle throughout the movie (yelling at her, saying Giselle is only a step-mother, going back to New York secretly, just being a pain-in-the-a$$ teenager etc)?

  • If Giselle wanted a more fairytale life, she could have just suggested that the family move to Andalasia.
    • Well, Robert and Morgan have only ever known the real world and this would effectively cut off communication with any friends of Morgan, while in Monroeville they can use social media. Since Giselle only wants her family to be happy, moving to Andalasia would be counterintuitive as, at the very least, Morgan would be desperately unhappy.
    • At the same time it's been shown that Andalasia somehow has cell reception, so Morgan could still keep in touch with her friends and they could easily put a portal somewhere for Morgan and Robert to use whenever.
