In the former, Nicole's Mom threatens the school, but the school immediately knows she's too poor to actually go through with it and so the family gets ignored so hard that they decide to move.
In the latter, Nicole's Mom pulls out all the stops, suddenly pulls out a massive cash fund she'd been hiding away and brings out her best lawyer. Provided Nicole doesn't screw up on the witness stand, she's able to get $500,000 out of the school and presumably gets every sexual predator in the school fired.
So the question becomes...what is with the discrepancy in these two responses? How come Nicole's Mom doesn't even try to bring the amount of resources to the first problem that she does in the other one? Even if they don't have as much of a case in the first scenario, she doesn't even attempt to bring out that special fund and super-lawyer?
