Headscratchers / Black Mirror: Striking Vipers

Go To

  • Why did the developers of a fighting video game would program functional genitals into the characters instead of just making them have a Barbie Doll Anatomy or making the genitals non-functional, being there just for "decoration" and realism? If they can make Karl feel a female orgasm, then it's not absurd assuming that they did have those two other options. Unless the game is rated as AO, which is very unlikely seeing that Striking Vipers appears to be a popular and long-running title in-universe, the game company would fall victim of several scandals. In real life, Rockstar Games had a lot of trouble for much less (the "Hot Coffee" incident with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas).
    • Adding onto this, do all games in the setting have this feature? Even family-friendly games like Mario Kart?
    • When Danny first opens his gift from Karl, we can see that Striking Vipers is rated M (Mature). Still doesn't explain the genitals, though.
    • Tying into this question, did the developers seriously not consider that people might be using their games other than for fighting? Most people don't like feeling pain (unless you're a masochist) so it's only natural they would abuse the simulation to feel good instead. I can imagine they'd stand in their meeting room looking like fools as they discover this and add a patch that forbids virtual sex.
  • Why oh why, didn't Danny consider inviting his wife to play the game with him if he wanted to spice up their love life? Why turn to Karl for sexual satisfaction?
    • It's pretty clear that Theo wasn't satisfying him, and with that attitude he might not have thought that the game would have helped.
