Headscratchers / Babe: Pig in the City

  • Why doesn't Thelonius say anything at all for most of the end of the film? He just... stares.
    • I'll hurl a WMG at this one: Maybe he saw the 1986 version of The Fly. I know it was baboons in that film, but, hey, it was scary!
  • Why did Esme Hoggett's suit inflate? Rule of Funny aside, it didn't make any sense.
    • It belonged to a recently deceased clown who owned such outfits. Also, when she hit that waiter person guy that landed on the dessert table, he suddenly held up a tag that said "DO NOT PULL" which we can assume he grabbed it by accident.
      • Still though, what part of Fugly's act required him to wear flesh-colored inflatable tights under his pants? And if the assumption is the tag wasn't supposed to be pulled off, wouldn't it be wiser to make it harder to remove?
  • What caused Uncle Fugly to fall ill and be sent to the hospital? Nothing was shown or said on what caused him to become ill suddenly.
    • Given his age and unhealthy eating habits, he probably had a heart attack.
      • Or he might've been sick the whole time (or older than he looked) and that incident with Babe at the hospital is what did it.
  • Why did Esme Hoggett get arrested in the city looking for Babe? She was mugged and tried defending herself, but was pushed into the police van. What's even more baffling is that besides the big guy who tried to steal her purse, 3 others are in the police van with her; another big guy, a tattooed guy, and a mermaid, and they didn't interact with her during the scene.
    • Because, she first attracts the attention of the police by yelling 'pig' repeatedly, they assume she is insulting them. Then she goes on to instigate a brawl between the police and the leather clad roller blade gang. She essentially throws one at an officer, and several more pile onto him (accidentally, but the police clearly perceived it as an attack).
  • In all that chaos, how did that tower of champagne glasses not fall over? I know the one guy was guarding it with his life, but still.
  • How exactly did Esme get back to the farm after the events of the ballroom scene? The movie doesn't exactly go into detail about what happened to her in her final moments in the city, so there are plenty of unanswered questions about how she was able to go back home.
    • She probably brought at least some money with her, which could have been used to buy another plane ticket. After all, even if her trip had gone perfectly well and according to plan, she couldn't simply travel for such a long distance without at least some emergency change. She also told the Landlady she would only need a room for two days, after which there would presumably be flights back to wherever she and Arthur live. The Landlady herself may have also helped with the travelling expenses, especially since she decided to go with her.
  • Shortly before Babe is abducted by Fugly, the Landlady can be heard telling Esme that they found her clothes as an attempt to calm her down. However, after Esme gets back from prison covered in glue and ruins her dress after bending down, she asks the Landlady for other clothes as a replacement, and is thus forced to wear Fugly's old clown suit, the only thing that will fit her. Why didn't she simply fetch one of her recovered clothes? They were still presumably in the hotel, and would not only be much better and less embarrassing to wear than a clown suit, they also wouldn't have the inflatable feature that ended up causing her so much trouble. Unless she was planning on wearing that red dress she ruined for the entire trip, there had to be at least something else there.
    • Perhaps she assumed they were lost when the hotel was ransacked, or alternatively, she could tell that Esme wanted to find Babe as soon as possible, so she thought that she'd just be wasting time trying to look for them.
