But...

  • If Atlas is supporting the whole world on his shoulders... what is he actually standing on? His feet must be on some firm standing outside our world if this is so. Therefore all those depictions of intrepid explorers reaching the point where Atlas is standing are not all that thought through. If they are still on our world, then from our point of view, Atlas should be upside-down in relation to them. And if they looked "up". What would they see where the feet of Atlas are? Another world? And could they then cross to it? And.. would their Atlas, Salta, perhaps, be standing nearby with his feet on our world, supporting the weight of that one? And what would happen if Atlas ever "sod it" and let go. Would our Earth fall by however tall Atlas is - according to depictions, not very far - and settle gently against the point where Atlas is standing? Would anyone notice? So many questions.
