- The TV program is both a production of Asteroid City and a documentary on the play. Actually, now that I write that I'm wondering if that's true but let's assume it is for now. Are the actors portraying themselves or not? Is it Jones Hall as both himself and Augie Steenbeck or an unknown actor (let's call him Mason Smortzman for simplicity's sake) playing Jones Hall who is playing Augie Steenbeck?
- I feel like having an actor play an actor play a character would be both too complicated and also something Wes would probably do, and since there's nothing saying that isn't the case, sure.
- OP here. It occurred to me that this at least has to be the case with Conrad Earp as he is of course dead and so being played by unknown actor I'm gonna call Schmedward Schmorton.
- Though this also raises the question of whether or not Conrad Earp is even a real person or, like Asteroid City itself, "invented exclusively for this broadcast".
- Of course, in a meta-sense, the whole production — play, framing device and all — is very much "invented exclusively for this broadcast", so in a way the answer is yes.
