Headscratchers / Asterix and the Black Gold

• So the village is almost out of magic potion. Obelix is the only one who can defend them from the Romans until Asterix returns. Yet Getafix and Vitalstatistix let him go with Asterix to hunt for oil...simply because he has a sulk about wanting to go? It's not like Asterix isn't clever or brave enough to look after himself on the journey, especially since Getafix gives him a gourd of the limited remaining potion supply. If they didn't want him to go alone, well Dubbelosix was going anyway or someone else from the village could have gone with him. In the circumstances, Asterix and Obelix would probably be gone for some months. Even if the village tries to keep a low profile, all it would take would be a forest encounter gone wrong or an effective spy for the Roman camps to realise the village was out of potion and launch a full scale attack. Obelix only thinking of himself in wanting to go is one thing, but surely Vitalstatistix and Getafix should have insisted he stay to defend the village if required?
