Headscratchers / Abbott Elementary

  • Why do they treat the egg drop as something that is completely impossible to explain at an elementary school level? The problem wasn't that Janine wanted to include the class in the experiment, it's that she just went about it in the wrong way. It goes without saying that trying to teach it at the level that you would to a late middle school or high school class and trying to teach them how to do in-depth calculations isn't going to work, but you can absolutely try to teach the core principles relevant to the egg drop in a fun and age appropriate way. A quick google search will show you that plenty of elementary school students have participated in egg drop experiments and succeeded. This episode came across as weirdly condescending and simply giving kids less credit than they deserve.
    • Maybe there wasn't enough time to adapt it for the younger kids, or enough staff to supervise elementary school students working with scissors and eggs. Plus, they might have anticipated that Janine would get carried away with the creative aspects at the expense of physics.
  • How did Ava's old Halloween costumes fit Janine perfectly? Ava is both much taller and much curvier than Janine.
    • If they're old enough, maybe she grew since the last time she wore them.
