In stories where the MC has a relationship from the start, his girlfriend will turn out to be only in it for his money, constantly leech off his money on expensive stuff, and abusing him for not earning enough money for her liking. On the other hand, they may break up with the woman leaving him for a richer man. However, if she finds out the MC has become more successful than her current Meal Ticket, she'll try to get back with him only to be rejected. Therefore, this gets Sekai no Fushigi a Gold Digger subpage.


  • "Poor guy in a tiny company" but when friend mentions my family fortune at her wedding...: Mami Motokariya left Tsukasa Motoki because he worked at a small company, then announces her marriage with a rich man named Koki Shintani. However, when Yuji reveals that Tsukasa's father is the CEO of an even bigger company, her mood drops, and ran to beg Tsukasa to take her back, just moments after the wedding ended. However, his girlfriend Erika comes to pick him up before Mami could even ask him out.
  • My girlfriend cheated on me with a rich guy. I went to her wedding. I had become rich...: Erika breaks up with Koki in college, then dates his rich best friend Kaito. When she found out Koki became far more successful, she begged him to steal her back in the middle of the wedding. Koki agrees to crash the wedding only to steal Kaito instead.

At her wedding, Mr. Iroki reveals that Hayato's parents, who Mr. Iroki's company does business with, own a major food processing company. After Hayato reveals why he never told anyone about his family when he was in college, including how he didn't want people only befriending him for his money, Rika lets it slip that she wouldn't have broken up with him if he had said he was rich. After learning from Hayato that he and Rika were dating each other before she chose him and realizing that Rika is only marrying him for his money, Mr. Iroki responded to this by vowing to give her a modest life. Rika is horrified and begs him not to, but fails.
  • My ex-girlfriend came running back after she found out how much money I had...: May broke up with Rick after he couldn't get ahead with his accessory business. However, his childhood friend Alice helps him with his business. May comes back to beg him to take her back, only to be put in her place by Alice.
  • Ran into my ex at the hospital… she offered to take me back, but…: A nurse named Minori spread a bunch of lies about her ex-boyfriend Haruto when he was in the hospital she works for because of an injury. However, she finds out that he became rich by making computer programs, making her try to get back to him. She gets into big trouble when she insulted Haruto's girlfriend, who turns out to be the daughter of the owner of the hospital.
  • A woman made fun of me during a night out with me co-worker but in the next day: A woman named Ririka made fun of Konno, because he didn't look well dressed. When she found out that he is the CEO of his own company, she began to obsessively stalk him and blow up his phone with texts. When she stalked him on his way to a date with Emily, he blurts out that he's getting married to her which shocked her a lot and she backed down.
  • My ex-girlfriend tried to get back with me after I joined a big company: Hinano dumps Yuuji and tells him he was useless for working in a company that she views as inferior compared to hers. She attempts to win her ex-boyfriend back after he joins her company and is also nominated for executive position there. Predictably, Yuuji rejects her and many of her co-workers also look down on her for being useless at work.
  • My arrogant old classmate was bragging about his fiancee but then...: Kitajima's girlfriend, Rina, only dated him for his money and she has a lover. Riku discovered this when he saw Rina call her lover and admit this, and he decided to tell Kitajima to do a background check on her. Kitajima did so, found out the truth and broke up with her.

She later married Matsuda, a jobless man who had recently started working at Ryo's company and she called Ryo and told him that she was thinking about getting a divorce, but he discourages her and asked her why she didn't ask Matsuda what he does for a living before marrying him. Marissa decided to stick with him and is now pregnant with his baby.

She later dates a CEO named Yuto Tahara who lives on the top floor of a tower mansion. However, Yuto reveals that he is just renting the place, this causes her to freak out because she looks down on renters. She later finds out than Riku is actually rich due to being an investor and begs him to take her back, unfortunately for her, both Riku and Yuto start ignoring her, and the latter also breaks up with her.
  • Dude, Where's My Girlfriend!?!: Ruka pretended to forget her dates with Haruto so she could find a rich young man in group dates. When he and his best friend Tomoki called her out for it and the former broke up with her. Tomoki then asks his own girlfriend, Sachi, to match Haruto up with another young woman named Shizue. When Ruka found out Haruto was rich, she called him to take her back, only for Shizue to take his phone and call her out. Turns out her mark, Naoto-san, was a jobless and poor man and she only found out after she quit her job before marrying him.

However, when Kaito gathered with Kanako, her parents, his parents, and his airheaded sister, the sister revealed that Kanako was cheating on him with a man named "Mori-kun". Turns out she "forgot" her wallet because she didn't want to spend money on Kaito and she "lost" his gifts because she sold them to a pawn shop in order to by things for Mori-kun. Eventually, both men break up with her, but she kept pursuing Mori-kun until he got her fired for her trouble.

On top of that, his Jerkass successful brother Takuya stole his girlfriend. Years later, Kouki himself became successful and Takuya fell ill due to the stress of handling Kasumi's overspending. As a result, he tells Takuya to divorce her and then lends Kasumi's parents 20,000 dollars to help pay her debt and force her to pay them back.

The new couple continue to bad-mouthing Riku when they see him eating at a fancy restaurant with Tomoya, his best friend. Disgusted by the couple, Tomoya intentionally spills the fact that Riku is actually the president of a large company and makes 10 million per-year. After the truth was out, Waruko tries to get back with Riku, only to be rejected, and Norio also dumps her for her trouble.

The couple also look down on Tsukasa for working in a convenience store, causing Tsukasa to get another job at Tokyo. Years later, Tsukasa returns to his hometown to find out that Neina had married Yatsuo, but he became jobless after the president and executives of his company were arrested for running a scam, she also asks Tsukasa to take her back, only to find out that he already has a fiancée who is also a popular idol.
  • My girlfriend dumped me because I was into arts and crafts, but then…: Yuri dumped Riku because she didn't like his passion on arts and crafts and creating them from scratch as she preferred designer bags and clothes. She later attempts to get back with Riku after finding out that he became as a celebrity for working as a manager at a cosplay store, only to be called out by Riku because she was the reason he is now successful.
  • This woman at my workplace kept talking down on me… But then…: Nishikawa looks down on Haruto Odajima for supposedly being poor because he came from the countryside. When Nishikawa finds out that Haruto is the heir of a fancy hotel in the countryside, she changes her attitude towards him in a desperate attempt to get together with him. To make things worse, she also spreads false news that she is going to quit her job to marry Haruto. When Haruto calls Nishikawa out for her actions, she resorts to seeing his mother to get her approval, only to find out that he was already engaged to his childhood friend Shiori.
  • My ex-girlfriend showed her true colors at her own wedding: Satoko originally dated Tsukasa because he went to a good university and had him pay for her and demanded that he always take her to fancy restaurants. Seeing her true nature, Tsukasa broke up with her, only for Satoko to reveal that she was going to dump him anyways. Afterwards, she repeatedly harassed and made fun of him at work, calling him pathetic and useless. A few months later, she got married to Oyamada from Sekai Trading Co., one of the clients of the company Tsukasa works for. At the wedding, when Tsukasa congratulated Satoko, Satoko mocked him, called him a loser, and told him to get out of her face. However, she overhears two men talk about how Tsukasa's parents own Fujita Co. Later, after the wedding was over, Satoko approaches Tsukasa and tries to get back with him, claiming that she doesn't like Oyamada and she has always loved him. However, Tsukasa refuses, knowing why she's trying to get back together with him. In addition, the two men from earlier overhear her, with one of them, Sekai Trading Co.'s president, having recorded the whole thing. After listening to the recording, Oyamada dumped her in front of everyone and called off the marriage. Afterwards, Satoko got transferred to a dead-end position.
  • “What about money!?” My girlfriend broke up with me after I got in an accident...: Mami has always relied on her boyfriend, Riku, for money ever since they started living together. While visiting Riku in the hospital after loses control of his legs after getting caught in an explosion at his workplace, she keeps asking him about how they are going to get money and if he will able to get back to work. When he tells her to get a job to support the two of them, since he may not be able to use his legs again, she refuses. She instead breaks up with him, claims that he is selfish just for telling her to get a job, refuses to help him recover, and leaves him to fend for himself. A year later, Mami tries to back with Riku after learning that he is able to walk again and has started his own company. However, he refuses, telling that he has a new girlfriend and that he has not forgiven her for abandoning him when he needed her the most. Mami refuses to apologize for what happened, telling him that it was his fault she broke up with him. Suddenly, Riku's girlfriend, Satsuki, steps in front of her and prepares to slap her, only stopping right before hitting Mami's face. Satsuki then orders Mami to leave, telling her that she has no idea what Riku had to go through and that she deserves no sympathy from him. Mami later got married to an entrepreneur. However, she got divorced right away, didn't have any money to survive on her own, and now lives her life running away from debt collectors.
  • Ran into my ex during work, but then…: While Atsushi and Rina were dating, Rina was a big spender, was cheap, wanted expensive things, and always expected Atsushi to pay for everything. She also accused Atsushi of being poor because his parents didn't send him money. After Atsushi bought her a $300 handbag for her birthday, she broke up with him and started dating another guy. Years later, when she goes to the café he's working at, she calls him a loser and states that she's glad she broke up with him. Later, after her friends tell her to give them back the money they lent her, she learns from Takaya that he and Atsushi own the café, that Atsushi's family is actually rich, and the reason they never sent him money was because he always refused. It is also revealed that the man she dumped Atsushi for scammed her and took all of her money. Later, Rina calls Atsushi and tries to get back with him. However, he refuses and blocks her number.
  • When I was 27, my girlfriend dumped me for a rich guy...: After meeting Yuto Saoinji at a barbeque and learning that his parents are big time investors, Matoi Tadatsuki decides to get together with him and breaks up with her boyfriend, Mizuki Miyanaga, who she had dating for three years, claiming that she does not believe Mizuki's small design company will become successful. She then begins stalking Yuto and demanding his contact information, which starting creeping him out. A few weeks later, she runs into Yuto while he's playing darts with Mizuki and a woman named Yuka. She starts accusing Yuka of stalking Yuto and throws water at her, with Mizuki shielding her. Yuto angrily confronts Matoi and reveals that Yuka is his younger sister. He then tells her that he wants nothing to do with her and threatens to call the police on her if she ever goes near him again.
  • Went to this restaurant with my subordinates, but then…: Rina was a spendthrift even though her boyfriend, Atsushi, is trying to live a conservative life, even learning how to cook. Since he wouldn't take her out to restaurants, she decided to cheat on him with another man. In addition, she cancels all of her dates with Atsushi by always lying that she has an upcoming tennis match. One day, while Atsushi was dining at a fancy restaurant with two of his subordinates, he runs into Rina dating the other guy. When Atsushi asks Rina what is going on, she tells him to stop talking to her and that they broke up four months ago. While Atsushi and his colleagues are trying to eat, both Rina and her new boyfriend openly mock him, calling him poor, pathetic, and a loser. Rina even makes fun of the $1000 necklace that Atsushi gave her for her birthday. Eventually, both she and her lover are forced to leave by the restaurant's owner, since they are bothering the other customers. They are also called out by Atsushi's subordinates, who reveal that Atsushi is the youngest manager in the history of their company. While they are leaving, Atsushi calls her out for her lies, only for Rina to tell him to shut up. After returning home, he vented out his anger at what Rina did, even calling her a "stupid bitch", blocked her number, and moved to an apartment closer to work. A few weeks later, while dining with his subordinates at another restaurant, he sees Rina and her boyfriend unable to pay the $300 bill due to the boyfriend's credit cards being declined. It is revealed that Rina spent all of his savings on herself. When Rina begs Atsushi for help, he agrees to lend her $300 to pay the bill, but has her give him the necklace that he gave her as collateral until she pays him back. After he and his subordinates leave the restaurant, Rina, who was waiting outside, tries to get back together with. However, Atsushi refuses to have anything to do with her and tells her to get lost.
