Book 1: Wearing the Cape
- Shelly's first appearance has her wearing the Fun T-Shirt "I killed myself origin chasing and all I got was this lousy t-shirt."
Book 7: Ronin Games
- Ozma creates transformation rings for herself, Artemis and Astra to effectively become magical girls, shifting between a super-form and a civilian ID that are both Japanese in appearance. But because the civilian costuming hadn't been done yet, the first "power-down" test leaves all three standing naked, which Astra had not been told would happen.ARTEMIS: Well, that would be fun at some parties.
- Shelly spends most of the book as a magical talking cat. The Japanese security agent notes that while most of their team is rather odd for Japanese capes, that is pretty standard.
- In the promise game, what is Kitsune's demand of Hope? "Marry me."
Book 8: Team-Ups and Crossovers
- Right before Hope finally goes home, Shell mentions that her parents met Kitsune, and they have a lot of questions about their daughter's fiance who she never mentioned. Hope wonders if maybe she can wait a few more days.
Book 9: Recursion
- Hope's mom finds out about her husband.Anne Marie: Is he Catholic?
Hope: He's a Shinto kami, so probably not?
Anne Marie: No church, then. But he will be coming to Sunday dinner.
Book 10: Repercussions
- Shell has taken to wearing the drone-transformed-into-a-talking-cat body on a regular basis. When Grendel asks how that works, Ozma says simply "possession is nine-tenths of the law." Hope falls out of her chair laughing.
- After a deep and meaningful story explaining to Hope why he loves her despite her canceling his oath, Kitsune then tells a random joke about Harry Houdini's death.
