  • The film is filled with the kind of banter among professionals/aficionados and among romantic couples that would make Howard Hawks proud. One golden moment is when Mickey and Johnny are walking down the street, and Johnny notes that Gus once told him that he had a daughter who was "smarter than the both of us". Beat. So, Johnny explains, when he first met Mickey, he automatically assumed she was...another daughter Gus hadn't mentioned. Mickey smacks his arm.
    • Johnny stripping down to his skivvies in front of Mickey...seemingly for no reason—until he jumps into the river.
      • A subtle part of the sequence is Mickey not taking her shirt off when she undresses. It's a subtle punch line to Johnny not obeying her "no peaking" command (and "excuse" that he's looking at the car).
  • When Johnny and Mickey pull Gus from his No-Holds-Barred Beatdown of the punk who harassed Mickey...Johnny "explains" that Gus is his father and Mickey's his sister. And then he gives Mickey a smooch.
