What would you expect from a game dedicated entirely to the Balloon Belly Trope?

Main Story

  • Your first interaction with To-Ri the Great Birdman is him having gotten fat due to him retiring and having the pigs bring him food... Only for Munch to point out that it's likely that the pigs are most likely fattening him up to eat him. Cue a beat and then him expressing shock, and then realizing he has to go out of retirement again before giving Munch one of his feathers to activate the fast travel system. And despite the weight he put on during said retirement, To-Ri proves why he's called the Great Birdman as he flies away, to Munch's impressment.
    • Speaking of the fast travel, the animations for transitioning from place to place are hilarious at later weight levels, as To-Ri's pained face as he carries either Weight Level 4 or 5 Munch shows him in pain, while also being a minor Moment of Awesome considering at those points Munch weighs around a quarter to a half a ton.
  • After Munch defeats the Slime King, the poor thing shrinks down to a small little speck that runs away from him. After chasing it down, it offers to upgrade Munch's fullness capacity (at this point in the story it's very likely that Munch has hit the required capacity minimum to go through with the operation), while also asking for some cash as compensation. After paying out, the slime king jumps into Munch's mouth and starts expanding, swelling him up to his 2nd and 3rd weight levels... then stops, asking to take a quick nap considering how warm the inside of his belly is. Munch tells the slime to hurry up and finish the job.
  • Gordo the crocodile uses himself as a boat to help Much reach the northern beach by letting him sit on his belly. If Munch is pretty heavy, you can see Gordo's facial expression change to worry as he tries to move him across the water. If Munch is too large to sit on Gordo comfortably, the roles are reversed where Gordo sits on Munch's belly instead.
  • It's possible to beat Killsha without doing damage by... feeding her eggs until they react to her in such a way that she gains weight and breaks her clothes a bit, even pulling out a small white flag in defeat.
    • Even worse is when you meet up with her at Jack's Resort, where she states that her men mutinied against her and that she'll "Never look at eggs the same way again".
  • In what's supposed to be a climactic first fight against the Big Bad, Lord Darkdread, turns to this as soon as his phone rings (which is in a pink case and has the SuperCow Theme as its ringtone), in which he asks for a minute to answer.Fun Fact!  Listening in on his conversation with his mom reveals that his mother doesn't take his whole evil lord thing seriously, still calling him Lord Chubtail. Munch proceeds to use this knowledge to taunt Darkdread.
  • SuperCow's presence in the Ancient Path can feel like this, as like the cows in the village he can expand if left to his own devices... even though he gives infinite milk anyhow even at his normal size. If you didn't know about it, and had went to do something else while the game was running un-paused, it can be quite comical to come back and see this super bovine blimped to an absurd size because you didn't milk him.

Optional Content

  • The event leading to Munch's 5th weight level. Munch meets the eating contest host, Sugar, on the beach while she's grumbling about how the shark pirate girl had potential and that it was a shame she refused to take part in the contest. Munch then asks her what's going on and she explains herself, stating how the original host couldn't make it and that she is hired "on-site talent". While she admits not her "home di- Island.", she's more than willing to host the contest, which Munch accepts in participating. Once at the event, the other participants are To-Ri, Boarus, and... Sunblaze the Dragon. The contest itself ends in a draw, considering Munch doesn't have enough capacity to finish without bursting after eating the last bit of food (interestingly enough, the bursting animation that plays is the one that plays if you get hit with a piercing attack at near full capacity), with Sugar even exclaiming:
    Sugar:"OH MY GOD! HE EXPLODED!"
    • The Rematch to this happens almost the same way, with everyone but Munch knocked out, but thanks to the potion Key made for Munch, he's able to reach his 5th weight level. Boarus is very annoyed that he keeps losing to Munch.
Boarus:"I keep losing to this... pipsqueak!"
  • Weight level 5 itself is the source of a couple of interactions, namely that if you talk to Sugar after the 2nd contest at this weight, she proceeds to nuzzle against Munch's belly. Entering Killsha's boss fight at this weight has her think that he's a sea behemoth and then jumps over to rub his belly to check. And, later in the game you can enter Katsu's den, where his niece and nephews pressure Munch into swelling into his largest size... just so then they can use him as a trampoline/reading couch.
    • Even funnier about that last one is if you talk to them while at weight level 5, instead of pressuring him, the thin nephew calls Munch the "Lizard-Whale-Thing!" before the kits gang up on him to use him as a trampoline/reading couch.
  • In the mountains you can have Munch go through a training montage with Sifu to help him improve his capacity. Among the various training exercises are: Keeping Munch as full as possible without popping, Munch having to keep his balance while standing on a bamboo stalk while over a bed of ice spikes, sitting in cold water, and stuffing themselves with food.

Gameplay related

  • The new "non-popping" animation added in the October 2021 update has Munch's body fly around like a deflating balloon before reaching his original point and dropping like a rock as his spirit flies out. The animation itself is so absurd it's comical.
  • Munch's overworld art on the map changes depending on his size, becoming larger and larger as he does, but also getting more proud of his weight... until you get him into his Oversize and check the map, to which you see him blobbed out and taking up a good chunk of the map, along with him looking dazed at his predicament.
