  • The anime's opening features Tomo's love manifesting as a pink personification of her that bursts out and battles with Jun.

    Episode 1
  • Misuzu's Twitchy Eye as she listens in on Tatsumi getting quite the misunderstanding from Jun regarding his and Tomo's relationship.
  • Upon being told by Misuzu of what Jun and Tatsumi were talking about, Tomo is not pleased, to say the least.
    Tomo: JUN, YOU PATHETIC ASSHOLE!
  • Jun and Tomo walking home in the rain sees Tomo staying as far from him as possible while sharing an umbrella, so Jun tries to get her closer to him, only for her to claim she stinks, so he smells her, freaking out Tomo so much she runs off in a dead sprint. When Jun catches up to her, he then does the same thing when he sees her shirt is now see-through.
  • Jun's silent and petty methods of getting back at Misuzu for pressing his buttons. First pushing her into the rain, then pulling the scrunchy from her hair and dropping it on the floor, both while she is trying to teasingly coax a reaction from him. Both times the pair simply stare at each other in silence afterward.

    Episode 2
  • Tomo sounds just so scandalized to find out Misuzu is only wearing underwear under her skirt. She even accuses her of lying when she says that is how most girls wear skirts.
Tomo: This is the kind of girl you are?
Misuzu: I haven't done anything to deserve that creeped-out look.
  • Jun calls Misuzu's bluff when she dares him to go through with his threat to flick her forehead… yet she is bewildered when he goes through with doing it.
  • Carol Olston is introduced, via several seconds of her boobs jiggling excessively as she calmly strolls through the school.
  • Carol's idea of "bullying" Tomo involves walking up with her usual smile, saying "baka/dumbbell" (depending on the language) and then calmly walking off. Tomo isn't so much insulted as she is confused.
  • Carol's methods of asking for help involve sitting on Misuzu's desk and hiding in Jun's locker until he opens it.
    • Misuzu asserts that she is Tomo's best friend and won't help with Carol's plan to defeat her. Carol offers free cake? Misuzu agrees to hear her out.
  • Carol's efforts at pushups and sit-ups, namely showing she can't do either of them. She then does jump roping, which causes Jun to suddenly find the ceiling very interesting.
  • Then Tomo shows up and angrily grabs Jun by his shirt, asking what the hell's going on. Carol then recalls what Misuzu told her, and realizes Tomo is interested in Jun.
Carol: Tomo-chan, Tomo-chan, I won't be your rival anymore, okay?
    Tomo: (confused) Huh?
Carol: (walks away happily) And I don't wanna train anymore. Bye-bye!

    Episode 3
  • Misuzu turns Not So Stoic when Jun dumps her before she can dump him, putting a "permanent black mark on my life" as she puts it.
  • Jun meets Misaki, and proceeds to silently and immediately karate chop him on the head on "reflex". Cue Tomo raging and punching Jun.
  • Jun slams his head into the locker in frustration upon finding out he could have been in the same karate club at school as Tomo.
  • Tomo's Good Angel, Bad Angel gets represented by chibi versions of Carol and Misuzu respectively. They also each give her the same advice.
  • After dishing out the details of the "date", including the one where Tomo spent the entire three hours singing Japanese children's songs while Jun recorded, Tomo, Misuzu, and Carol have a girl's night out for karaoke as well. Misuzu sings a love ballad and Carol sings an English bubblegum pop song. What does Tomo sing? "I Stepped on a Cat". Tomo's very chagrined expression is the icing on the cake.

    Episode 4
  • Misuzu casually taping Tatsumi's mouth shut to stop the "funny story" he wanted to tell her is one thing, but next, we see him walking through the school with the tape still on. Then he passes Carol who also has had her mouth taped shut by Misuzu. The two proceed to look back at each other in silent understanding and then continue on their way.
    • When Carol's taping is shown it is depicted as her leaping at Misuzu for an attempted kiss on the cheek while Misuzu wields the tape like a defensive weapon.
  • Hugging Carol and feeling just how incredibly soft and "girly" she is causing Tomo to have a crisis of confidence regarding her own femininity that seems poised to send her into a depression, only for Misuzu to assure her "that one is made special" as Carol walks by in the foreground, Jiggle Physics on full display.
  • Tomo freaking out Mifune and Ogawa when she glomps them out of nowhere.
  • After lending it to Tomo, Carol welcomes her headband back "home" to her head as if it were a coronation, complete with her voicing the music from "See, The Conquering Hero Comes" while Tomo is stunned silent. It's so surreal it has to be seen to be believed.
    Carol: It's back home.
  • Jun nearly getting his ear pulled off by Akemi when he calls her Mrs. Aizawa. She gets even angrier when Jun innocently tries to explain that he figured it was about time (i.e. she is the right age) for him to start calling her that.
    • Akemi later goes on a rant about how her husband & Tomo's dad, Gorou, is too shy to even be near her, calling him "a little girl in a bear's body." Tomo's resigned expression makes it clear she is well aware of her parents' bizarre relationship.

    Episode 5
  • The episode opens with Carol asking when "they" are coming over to her house on the next day off. Tomo and Misuzu get confused about who she is talking to as neither of them has made such a plan, and Carol clarifies that she's only brought the idea up just now. Cue Tomo and Misuzu pulling Carol's cheeks.
  • As they try to find her house (having been given a cute map instead of an address) and see the huge fenced-in area, Misuzu wonders aloud if Carol lives in some kind of "facility."
  • Like Carol, her mother Ferris only recognizes Tomo as a girl when she notices her breasts and says as much.
  • Misuzu loses her nerve and asserts she already wants to go home, and Tomo freaking out that she can't do this visit alone.
  • Carol and her mother's "casual" clothes are something to be seen. Her mother is wearing a cardigan that would be oversized on Tomo, and Carol is dressed in some kind of cutesy bunny pajama outfit.
  • Carol happily points out that she has the same type of braids Misuzu does, and Misuzu proceeds for a Jun-style display of pettiness by promptly undoing her own braids so they no longer match, complete with a casual Hair Flip.
  • While Ferris confronts Misuzu about her mean streak with Carol, Misuzu addresses it by joking that she may or may not have ulterior motives with the Olston family's fortune. Ferris snorts and giggles at this remark, causing Misuzu to feel like she came out as the loser in the exchange.
  • Ferris is evidently just as soft and good-smelling as her daughter, judging by Tomo's reaction to being hugged by her.
  • Despite how close they are, Tomo hasn't been to Misuzu's house in years (to the point that her mother doesn't even recognize her at first), and she doesn't remember why. The reason? Tomo kept breaking things so Misuzu banned her from it and is still worried about her being there.
  • Misaki is "not sold" on Carol, remarking as much while tugging on her cheek. Misuzu agrees.
  • Carol demonstrates she may actually be some kind of genius (doing math problems in her head that shouldn't be possible to do like that), with Misuzu's composure being heavily tested when she loses to Carol at a strategy game and later when Carol beats her score in the midterm exams.
  • As for said exams, Misuzu is offended that Tomo thinks she may have forgotten about them as she did.
  • When Jun offers to help Tomo study, Misuzu puts him in his place by pointing out she was first in their class back in jr. high, causing an angry Jun to punch a wall.
  • Misuzu convincing Carol and Tomo (who both find it "inefficient") to show their work on the math portion by threateningly smacking a rolled-up magazine into her palm and giving them both a menacing Death Glare.
  • Misuzu and Carol respectively make disparaging remarks on Jun's "average" scores, and Carol gets introduced to Jun's petty displays of retaliation as he proceeds to put her headband and Misuzu's scrunchy high up out of easy reach.
Carol: Most people don't do stuff like this.
    Misuzu: Well he does.
  • Akemi glitters as she starts thinking about the name for her "future grandchild." This of course annoys Tomo to her wits end.
  • Tomo, still annoyed with her mom, then informs her dad about her plans for staying the night at Jun's place. His blasé "have a nice time" completely throws her.
  • Active early risers that they are, Tomo and Jun consider staying up until 11:30 and midnight respectively to be things to boast about.
Tomo: M-midnight?! That's the next day!
  • The sleeping Jun puts Tomo in a headlock until she passes out. Not necessarily normally funny but Tomo's bewildered expression makes it so.

    Episode 6
  • Tomo's birthday has arrived, and she has somehow forgotten it.
  • Apparently it's a tradition for Tomo each year to lord over Jun and Misuzu that she is now "older" than them, that they should treat her with more respect, call her "big sis," etc. Jun and Misuzu react with long-suffering exasperation.
  • Carol hums a birthday song and gifts Tomo a huge bar of gold. She adds that she intended to bring an even bigger one but it was too heavy.
  • Carol blurting out that they plan to give Tomo a makeover. Misuzu elbows her on the side hard enough to shake her for a bit, to Tomo's confusion.
  • When the Les Yay becomes too strong for Misuzu, she passes the chore of doing Tomo's makeup to Carol, who pops all of the necessary brushes, pens, and lip gloss out of her hands like Wolverine Claws.
  • Misuzu and Carol's Bad "Bad Acting" as they convince Tomo to go out and buy them some ice cream after dressing her up.
  • Tomo is so unused to heels that she faceplants as soon as she leaves the store.
  • Jun concludes that the dressed-up Tomo must not be Tomo since she is slightly taller (not realizing that Tomo is wearing high heels).
  • The dodgeball tournament, which is treated like a fight to the death Dragon Ball Z style, complete with auras and the ball glowing like a ki blast.
  • Tatsumi somehow thinks Misuzu is cheering him on in the dodgeball match (she's looking at her phone), and proceeding to go rag doll after getting hit by Gouma.
  • The overwrought Say My Name Jun and Tomo engage in every time someone is eliminated.
  • Jun "sacrifices" himself and Tomo gets a rage power-up. Carol yawns and Misuzu looks only faintly amused.
  • Tomo seems about to set up an amazing comeback, throwing the ball so it bounces between Gouma's legs and Jun catches it from behind. Instead of Jun, it's Tanabe who catches the ball, and he just casually and unceremoniously hits Gouma in the back to eliminate him.

    Episode 7
  • During a flashback to their childhood that takes up the first half of the episode, Jun and Misuzu meet and hang out for the first time, and their personalities and possessiveness over Tomo immediately cause some clashing. Tomo just thinks they've become great friends already.
  • Child Tomo thinks Tokyo is full of flying cars and giant robots. Jun doesn't bother to correct her.
  • Young Misuzu's repeated smug smiles whenever she asserts some form of petty superiority over Jun.
  • Child Misuzu doing a complete 180 on beetles, dismissing them as overgrown cockroaches to declaring they are "beautiful" the instant she hears how much some species are worth to keepers and collectors.
  • Beach day antics begin, with Carol spinning around in an inner tube while Tomo and Misuzu discuss swimsuits. She later idly places the inner tube and her heart-shaped sunglasses on Jun and she and Misuzu proceed to tease him over how it makes him look, much to his annoyance.
  • Misuzu adds to the rest of the group's excited exclamations of arriving at the beach, with an utterly deadpan "woo-hoo" and accompanying finger gestures.
  • Tomo, too embarrassed at first to come out in her bikini, is cowering in the changing station with a pullover until Jun storms in and tries to take it off. Doing this however shows him just how developed she's become, causing him to panic and zip up her hoodie to the point of choking her.
    • Misuzu finds the situation so funny she can't help but laugh, covering her mouth as she does.
  • Misuzu takes offense to Jun being fine around her when he considers Tomo and Carol to be too tempting/arousing.
Misuzu: Let me hit you just once.
  • Jealous over Carol hugging Jun, Tomo proceeds to throw balls of water/sand at them and somehow does it hard enough to leave bruises.
  • After helping Tomo get out of some unwanted male advances, Jun has to pull Carol away from seven such men.
  • Tomo, annoyed that Jun was willing to pretend to be Carol's boyfriend but not hers when he saved them from unwanted advances, puts Carol in a choke-hold while ranting about it to Misuzu. Carol's dopey smile never leaves her face.
  • Jun reacting to Tomo engaging in an unintentional bit of Erotic Eating with some ice cream is depicted as a gigantic asteroid impacting a planet. Even before this, Tomo in a bikini simply sitting close to him causes Jun's mental/emotional state to be represented by the image of a steaming flow of lava.

    Episode 8
  • Carol doing a stunningly accurate imitation of Misuzu, complete with losing her usual smile for a Misuzu-style frown.
    Carol: I'll slaughter you socially.
  • Carol's Cuddle Bug tendencies mean that a sleepover with Tomo involves her cuddling with Tomo on the floor while Misuzu gets the bed. Come morning though and somehow Carol's switched places with Misuzu.
  • Tomo in a Yukata is literally too stunning for Jun to look at for long.
  • Kousuke demonstrates why he usually keeps a good hold of Carol's hand when they go to festivals. Namely, the instant he lets go she vanishes. He then does a Flash Step and returns with her (Carol now eating a snack) to demonstrate how good he is at locating her.
  • Misuzu responds deadpan that Tomo will get mad at her if she finds out Carol said a silly oni mask looked like her, then clarifies that she will get mad at Carol as she proceeds to add a much more demonic mask that looks like Misuzu.
  • As Carol begins hinting that she has figured out Misuzu's complicated motives in helping Tomo and Jun get together, Misuzu begins referring to her as a "squishy bitch" in annoyance.
  • Instead of getting closer, the events of the festival have caused Jun to become more distant from Tomo. His former shoulder hugs were replaced with placing a single finger on Tomo's shoulder and then dashing away.
  • The school thugs getting immediately creeped out by Misuzu's aura. In particular, her eyes look outright insane as she declares she has now memorized all their faces. In the manga version, one thug restraining Misuzu asks for someone to switch places with him as she continues creeping out the group of thugs.
  • Carol helps out, by using a ridiculously strong taser on the thug leader, all while wearing an unchanging simple smile on her face. In the manga version, this is followed by one of the other thugs asking just what she did, Carol saying "this" and proceeding to taser him as well.
  • Misuzu looks just so done after Carol pulls free of her hand only to fall face first into a puddle and get covered in mud.
  • The idea that Jun and Misuzu are so reproachful of each other that before he finds out the reason for the call he replies to Misuzu's distress phone call with "I don't remember giving you my number."
  • Kousuke going full Nightmare Face in the belief that the thugs sexually assaulted Carol, raging to the point that it takes both Tomo and Jun to hold him back. Carol is overjoyed that he got so angry for her sake, whereas Misuzu points out a more pressing concern.
Misuzu: Just correct the misunderstanding before someone dies.
    • To say nothing of his embarrassment when he finds out what really happened. He slowly walks out of the warehouse with his face completely red, while Carol happily clings to his arm while giggling.

    Episode 9
  • Gorou somehow being able to sense Kousuke's vicious side, remarking that he has an evil spirit lurking inside him and needs to be careful of it.
  • Jun and Carol openly remark they don't particularly want to hang out with each other, leading to Jun asking why she is asking him to then. The anime cuts away, but in the manga, her answer is "spite."
  • Carol "torturing" Jun. Her growling is equal parts cute, disturbing, funny, and... sexy.
  • Jun pushes Carol off him, and she proceeds to lie still on the floor with the usual vacant smile.
  • Jun and Tomo both freak out when Carol appears behind them at her house.
  • Misuzu bluntly tells Kousuke to not bother with his "I see her as a little sister" line regarding Carol, and just how easily he proceeds to admit the truth.
  • Ferris headbutts Kousuke in retaliation for him apparently upsetting Carol. She declares the "fight" a draw due to injury on both sides.
  • Enraged Carol demonstrates her anger by smacking Kousuke with a pillow and later beating on the pillow herself. Notably, she also calls Misuzu by her last name while raging.
  • Carol seems primed to get hot and heavy with Kousuke as part of their Relationship Upgrade, only for a whistle to sound and her mother to appear remarking "That'll be all," to Carol's disappointment.
  • A heart-to-heart between Ferris and Kousuke leads to her trusting him a little more, specifically "two centimeters" more.
  • Carol arrives at school in a creepy bunny costume and genuinely freaks Misuzu out to the point that Carol's able to get a quick kiss on the cheek on Misuzu, leading to Tomo and Carol remarking that she lost. Cue Misuzu wiping her cheek and remarking she did "not lose".

    Episode 10
  • Carol and Misuzu opt to simply walk during the marathon, the teacher begging them to at least start out running.
  • The way Tomo passes out, simply dropping and lying flat face-first on the pavement.
  • Misuzu practically has a panic attack and trembles adorably as she informs Tomo that the unthinkable has happened... Tomo has caught a cold.
  • Tomo remarks on how big Jun has gotten as he carries her piggyback (after her demanding repeatedly that he carry her again), Jun is unable to stop himself from remarking that Tomo has gotten bigger too (meaning in the chest department).
  • Middle school Jun recounts some of the many times over the years that should have made it obvious to him that Tomo is a girl (including seeing her come out of the women's restroom), concluding that for whatever reason he subconsciously didn't want to notice.
  • As middle school Misuzu reflects on how having a boyfriend for the first time actually does make her feel happy, her own voice interrupts the scene to bluntly state "the good feelings ended there" and proceeds to show the exhausting and less-than-enjoyable-for-her dates Jun took her on.
  • Tomo's response to Misuzu saying she may not be able to stay her friend?
    Tomo: I'll knock you out!
    Misuzu: That's extortion.
  • The ending theme and image sequence changes to one sung by Jun, Tatsumi, and Kousuke, with all the zany interactions with their crushes/loves that one might expect.

    Episode 11

  • Carol's response to being asked what is good to eat (at the restaurant) is to remark that she loves cake, prompting the customer to ask in confusion if this ramen shop serves cake.
  • Given being a waitress is out of the question for now, Misuzu boots Carol outside to act as a "panda." She means an advertisement, but Carol thinks it means at least sounding like a real panda too, and proceeds to give the cutest roar after Tomo tells her pandas probably sound like other bears.
  • Carol gets really into her work, basically becoming a model for the crowd of men who gather to take pictures of her. While doing this she gives casually identical answers to Misuzu and then Tomo when they ask her what Jun may mean regarding his remarks on Tomo's maid uniform.
  • Jun smarmily asks if the polite, smiling waitress in front of him is actually Misuzu, leading her to ask if he has the memory of a chicken.
  • While her blackmailing him is only alluded to in the anime instead of seen, Misuzu's eyes are shown slowly turning purple and then red as Tatsurou thinks about how it feels like he's made a deal with the devil.
  • While being pushed down a short flight of stairs by Misuzu in her latest scheme to "help" him and Tomo get together, Jun can only conclude that she has reached the point of actually trying to kill him now. He then proceeds to dodge Tomo (who intended to catch him) only to run hand first into Carol.
  • In a subversion of the usual scenario, Carol and Tomo are quite willing to forgive Jun accidentally copping a feel of Carol's breast, but he demands Tomo hit him and not hold back, repeatedly.
    Jun: More!
  • Not long after, Misuzu is so distracted by her guilt over the stairs scheme that she falls down the same stairs, onto Tatsumi. She can only think it must be divine retribution. Tatsumi for his part freaks out when she apologizes and shows concern for him, worried that she might have hit her head.
  • Misuzu practically becomes an inferno of enraged dark energy upon finding out she has been given the role of Cinderella in the school play, her usual stoic tone turning loud and vicious.
Misuzu: What the hell is this about me being Cinderella?!
  • When she finds out that it was Carol who volunteered her, she pulls at her cheeks just as hard as she ever has.
Tomo: Stop, you'll rip them off!
  • Jun makes the mistake of taunting Misuzu about having to play Cinderella, leading to her pulling at his ear, Carol pounding him with her fists (that look like they wouldn't harm a fly), and Tomo giving him some really painful-looking knee strikes.
  • Practice for the play gets off to a... troubling start as Misuzu's own nature conflicts heavily with the role of the servile Cinderella.
Misuzu: Clean your own damn room.
  • Tomo considers the idea of Jun playing Cinderella while she's the prince to actually be kind of hot.

    Episode 12
  • Misuzu told her mom that there would be no cultural festival this year, most likely because she didn't want Misaki to see her playing Cinderella. Misaki pulls out a camera, saying she's gonna record everything as punishment for lying to her. Akemi wonders if it's just an excuse to not admit she wants to see her act.
  • At The start of the play, Misuzu doesn't even bother with her fake sobbing while she's wiping the floor. The comments from Akemi and Ferris say it all:
Akemi: She doesn't look too sad to me.
Ferris: She looks like she wants to take revenge.
  • Carol's mom fangirling over seeing her on stage the first time, calling out her name with hearts in her eyes, causing Akemi and Misaki to have to restrain her to keep her from distracting from the play.
  • Tomo's first appearance causes all of her classmates to go wild.
  • Carol is such a sweetheart that she, in her role as the wicked stepmother, breaks character and applauds and cheers for Cinderella when the prince proposes to her. The two girls playing the wicked stepsisters try to cover by doing the same thing while staying in character, leading to the ending going Off the Rails.
  • Turns out Tomo is easily frightened by haunted houses. However, her fight or flight response leans heavily toward "fight," so Jun has to hold her back from attacking what scared her (which is Kousuke dressed up as a vampire).
  • Carol and Kousuke "dancing," or rather Carol twirling wildly around with him while he holds on for dear life.
  • Misuzu thanks Carol, believing she volunteered her for the Cinderella role in order to get her and Tomo to make up. Carol though claims she didn't even know they were having problems, she just wanted a photo of Misuzu as Cinderella. Cue them wrestling over the phone as Misuzu tries to delete the picture.
  • Tomo, feeling quite insecure about dating Jun, runs away when he starts reciprocating her feelings, leading to any attempt to talk about what happened at the festival causing Tomo to go full Motor Mouth and running off in a panic.
    • Later, when Carol notices Tomo arrive sans Jun, she asks where he is, to which Tomo goes into Suspiciously Specific Denial and walks off laughing like a mad woman.
  • Carol is overjoyed at the "miracle" of Misuzu accepting a hug from her, even if it's only due to Misuzu disliking the cold more. Cue Misuzu silently abandoning the hug to sit in front of a warm air vent.
  • Jun is shocked to learn that Kousuke and Carol are dating, Jun being genuinely impressed that he can handle "that" i.e. a girl as forward as Carol can be.
  • Jun goes to have a heart-to-heart talk with Misuzu to make clear his intentions in confessing his feelings to Tomo. Misuzu soon realizes he means to say he'd been holding back from progressing his relationship with Tomo on his own out of respect for Misuzu and Jun's ill-fated 3-day relationship with her in middle school. When Misuzu asks Jun if she was in fact his first love, Jun sheepishly says no while mentally recalling the first time he accidentally looked down Akemi-san's shirt.
  • In the manga a omake reveals that Misuzu's father was devastated at missing the culture festival's play, to which Misaki and Misuzu replied in unison it was his own fault for falling for her lie. We then get a brief further insight into his... special, relationship with Misaki as with a smile she offers to show him the video she took of the play if he barks like a dog for her and he happily agrees.

    Episode 13
  • Carol recommends kissing Jun if Tomo wants to see him drop his calm facade with her and "win", in the manga declaring it to be easy (and trying to demonstrate with Misuzu who of course rebuffs her). Curious about how experienced she may be, Tomo proceeds to ask if Carol and Kousuke are "doing things lovers do" and Carol in the most teasing manner imaginable says it's a secret. Both Misuzu and Tomo are irritated enough at Carol holding out on them to pull on her cheeks.
  • Misuzu's own hidden desire/appreciation for romance gets implied in the manga when it's shown she not only went to watch a romance movie by herself but she counted the number of times the couple "do it" (kissing and otherwise) during it, points silently observed by Carol.
  • Jun is shocked that Tomo has become more comfortable watching kissing than him after she isn't flustered like he is by a romantic movie poster. Tomo smugly notes her own maturity, only for a flashback to reveal she'd been looking at the poster for a week in order to get used to it.
  • Jun's state of mind, when Tomo asks to sit next to him on the bed, is represented by a space shuttle launching.
  • Briefly overcome by lust, Jun has to hit himself to snap out of it but before he does so Tomo wonders if his forming a fist is part of "that" as well (as she thought they were about to have sex).
  • Tomo's rage when she finds out her dad didn't give Jun permission to date her. She basically explodes.
Tomo: Dad, you stupid piece of shit!
  • During their fight for the right to date Tomo, Jun finally lands a blow on Gorou's face, making him kneel briefly. He gets back up while saying "Not yet!", but an angry Akemi steps in and wacks him in the back of the head so he finally gives up and concedes his defeat.
