Funny / Thief: Deadly Shadows

Go To

  • Oil flasks and moss arrows. The sound and action of guards gagging is particularly funny. Of course, watching guards take pratfalls on the slippery oil is funny, but it's even more funny when they do it right off a pier in the dock. Thanks to their Super Drowning Skills, it's a useful tactic, too.
    • What's more, this tactic can be used on stairs and other inclines to break the final boss's "neck", rendering it helpless! At the Docks, you can even get it to slip 'n' slide straight into the ocean.
  • Near the end of the third game, in the middle of a very dire situation, there is one moment of humor. As the Hag appears before Garrett and Orland, she kills Orland while bragging about how awesome her power is... and Garrett nonchalantly walks away and disappears into the shadows. It's a good twenty seconds before the Hag notices he isn't there anymore and she's just talking to herself.
  • Garrett decides to work with the Keepers in Deadly Shadows, and expresses his exasperation with the vague prophecies delivered by Caduca and her translator, Gamall. Afterward, Head Keeper Orland makes it very clear that he doesn't trust Garrett, and warns him that if anything goes missing from the Keeper Compound, he will be holding Garrett responsible. Garrett just smirks at him.
    Orland: Is that clear?
Garrett: Perfectly. Maybe you should translate for Caduca.
  • Garrett's snarky jabs at the Keepers, even at a mentor and friend like Artemus, are lovely. Oddly enough, you do notice they're more playful than mean-spirited, showing that his opinions on the order have evolved over the years.
Garrett: I don't like being followed. Cryptic notes, secret meetings. Haven't you Keepers outgrown this stuff yet?
Artemus: It was not our intention to be... cryptic.
Garrett: (somewhere between displeased and bemused) What was your intention? Don't I have friends on the Keeper Council anymore?
    (...)
Artemus: The Keeper Council has agreed to allow you access to the prophecies as they are read by our Interpreter, Keeper Caduca.
Garrett: (grouchy) Eh, that's Keeper talk for 'Something bad has happened and now we want your help.' Right?
    (...)
(Caduca and Gamall have just finished reading a prophecy)
Keeper Elder: The prophecies are clear! There is much ahead to be wary of. (obligingly) Interpreter Caduca, your words are most usef-
Garrett (cuts him off in a bored, flat tone): Clear as mud.
    (...)
(Artemus has just finished explaining his findings to Garrett)
    Artemus: ...and there's more.
Garrett: (joking appreciatively) You've been reading, Artemus!
  • During the ending:
Garrett: If I never see another glyph again, it'll be too soon.note
  • Upon meeting a Garrett impersonator:
Garrett: So, that's the famous Garrett, huh? Guess he's not as good-looking as I'd heard...
  • The strange enemy AI can cause a few such moments. For instance, you can trick them into believing a random street thug committed whatever crime you did... for which they'll kill that person and resume their patrol. And late on in the game, the faction wars come to a head, causing mass fighting between Hammerites, Pagans, and the Watch (and sometimes, even Enforcers, Statues and Gamall) that tend to leave the streets strewn with corpses...
