• After nearly being strangled by a Mercurian, Edward refuses to go with Jack and asks why he needs his help. Jack replies that there's no one else to help him and Edward responds, "The police? The Army? The President?" Without skipping a beat, Jack makes a face as if thinking "Why didn't I think of that?", picks up a nearby telephone and sarcastically offers it to Edward.
• Edward: (running around corner of the parking structure) "I'll let you know when they're coming."
  (Edward runs out of sight. Lightning flashes from around the corner.)
  Edward: (running back around the corner toward Jack) "They're coming! They're coming!"
• (Aliens are shooting. Edward is cowering)
  Jack: "Fire back!"
  (Edward closes his eyes, shoots wildly)
  Jack: "With your eyes open!"
  (After firing multiple shots at the completely stationary Mercurians, Edward finally manages to score a hit)
  Edward: I got one!
  Jack: (Incredulously) Only one?
• Edward's attempt at hiding behind a metal pole (which quickly becomes a Moment of Awesome).
• Edward goes back to his office after the Mercurian plan is foiled to find Grace still waiting to get her paperwork stamped. It isn't until after Edward obliges that she thinks to ask if it's safe to go to her car.
• Episode 9 ends with an exhausted and disheveled Edward slumped in his office chair the morning after the attack while his coworkers go about their business, completely oblivious that anything was amiss. Then one of them notices a crushed and bloody brain just lying on a table in the hallway.
