  • Gregory's attempts at disguising his anarchy are... well, let's just say they bring Invader ZIM to mind more than anything else.
"...I dressed up as a bishop. I read up all about bishops in our anarchist pamphlets, in Superstition the Vampire and Priests of Prey. I certainly understood from them that bishops are strange and terrible old men keeping a cruel secret from mankind. I was misinformed. When on my first appearing in episcopal gaiters in a drawing-room I cried out in a voice of thunder, 'Down! down! presumptuous human reason!' they found out in some way that I was not a bishop at all..."
  • Syme getting elected as the new Thursday. There’s something wonderfully absurd about anarchists using Robert’s Rules of Order.
  • Syme's elaborate (and not entirely sober) plan to provoke the Marquis into a duel, with a very precise sequence of events. He's quite startled when someone points out that it might not necessarily go the way he plans.
  • When it seems the band of detectives are facing an entire population turned anarchist, Dr. Bull quickly decides that he and not the word has gone mad and periodically peppers the ensuing crisis with assertions of his own insanity.
"I am in a padded cell."
  • GKC's typical wisecracks are in top form throughout. One classic example:
"Thieves respect property; they merely wish the property to become their property that they may more perfectly respect it."
