Funny / The King Amuses Himself

• In the first act, the King has been spying on Blanche when Dame Bérarde sees him hiding behind a tree. He tries to offer his purse to bribe her into silence. But as she continues the conversation with Blanche she keeps extending her hand demanding more and more bribe money even as she praises him to keep quiet, much to the King's dismay and the audience's laughter.
