Novel Series

  • There are a number, but how Matron passes out, and Patrick's later imitation of it, rank high up there.
  • In the first book, Omri's brother Adiel accuses him of stealing his gym shorts, and they practically get into a fistfight over it. But then:
"Are these them?" asked a small voice in the background.
Omri and Adiel turned. Patrick was lifting up a crumpled navy-blue object from behind a radiator.
Omri felt the anger go out of Adiel.
  • Patrick trying to pass off Jessica Charlotte's singing as his own in The Mystery of the Cupboard. Gillon clearly thinks he and Omri have gone completely off their rockers!
  • In the second book when Patrick sends Omri back in time, Omri becomes a patch of fabric that gets burned in a raid. While the raid itself is nightmare fuel, it becomes funny when Omri is brought back and Patrick is freaking out trying to figure out what they'll tell Omri's parents about the fact his hair has been burned away!
Patrick:The bruises are easy. We can just say we got into a fight, but your hair!
  • In The Key to the Indian Omri and his father arrive in Little Bull's time stark naked because Bright Stars neglected to clothe the Iroquois corn dolls she made for them to inhabit. Omri's father's reaction (he pronounces the word "naked" to rhyme with "baked") is what really sells it.
Omri's father: Why are we nake'd?
  • The ritual Bright Stars goes through to bathe and dress the fellows (who are understandably quite embarrassed by the whole thing) the next morning is pretty hilarious too.

1995 Film

  • When Boone (who appears to be quite obviously hungover) stumbles out of the titular magic cupboard, unaware that he'd been transported through time and space (and size). After swearing to lay off the hooch several times in a row, he realizes that he's surrounded by giant children.
"Oh, my dear, sweet lord. I need me a drink."
  • A mild example, but there's one scene with Little Bear building his longhouse while Omri's away at school, singing in his native language as he works. Suddenly, from offscreen, we hear the sounds of hammering (presumably Omri's father building the skylight that Adiel wanted) and Little Bear suddenly goes quiet, listening. After a few moments, he decides whatever he's hearing isn't a threat to himself and starts singing again.
  • Omri decides to test the cupboard's power by putting a bunch of different figures in it, namely Darth Vader, the T-Rex from Jurassic Park, RoboCop, a Ferengi, and a few others. He turns the key and opens the door, only for his excited expression to change to one of horror when he finds them all fighting. A moment later, they all pause to take in what's going on and look up at him.
    Robocop: Halt!
  • Omri "borrows" two figures (an Indian chief for his bow and arrows and an Indian woman as a potential wife for Little Bear) from his school's American Indian diorama and replaces them with two of his own- Aracula from Skeleton Warriors and Limburger from Biker Mice from Mars. To say that they look hilariously out of place would be an understatement.
