  • Xerxes having the water at the Strait of Hellespont lashed as punishment for a storm that damaged the Persians' pontoon bridge.
  • When 240,000 Egyptian soldiers deserted from their posts, Pharoah Psammetichus attempted to convince them not to abandon their wives and children. One of the deserters allegedly pointed to his genitals, and said that as long as they had these, they'd always have wives and children.
  • A bit of black humor when the Persians go to Athens and Sparta to ask for an offering of "earth and water". As seen in 300, the Greeks promptly give them what they asked for by throwing them down their wells.
